What if Edelman doesn't play?

Yeah, I don't think you can make a strong case for any key guys not playing, maybe Ebner, Waddle, Freeny could be inactive due to health reasons. The issue for me, as was stated earlier, is how they will play. Interestingly, the guys who played the worst Sunday were the OL--among the healthiest.
Everyone attended practice, but that doesn't mean they are all healthy, 100% and ready to go. Lets hope so, but be at practice and being ready to play are 2 different things.

I have said repeatedly that they are not all healthy and 100%. I just think all the key guys will play, and I believe there is good reason to be confident about this. I gave my reasoning for JE11 above. Is there someone else you think will not play?

Vollmer
Hightower
Jones
Edelman
Freeney
Coleman
Waddle
all could not play last week

Nink
McCourty
Chung
Kline
Amendola
are all battling injuires

There is no way of knowing if Vollmer will be ready. Jones was a total shock of an inactive, so how do we have any clue what state he is in. Coleman is in concussion protocol. Hightower has been hurt for a month. Freeney has missed weeks. Waddle was cut off IR then played a half a game for us and sat out.
Maybe I'm dense but how do we think those injuries all just disappeared because the regular season ended?

Glad you are feeling better. I was worried about you.
I just hate assuming everything will be fine, particularly with injuries because that is what has and could continue to kill the best team in the NFL.

I am certainly not assuming everything will be fine. In another thread I posted a similar list of injured players and while I am confident they will all play, I have no idea how healthy they are. the expectation that Edelman et al. will play is at least some basis for believing they will be better than we have seen of late. But there is no denying that this team went from being among the best in the NFL at the beginning of the season, to among the worst at the end. Expecting them to be someplace in between these extremes leaves a lot of ground. Personally, I think they will be challenged more than most here imagine, but I never bet against BB and TB12.

Respectfully, I'm glad Gronk doesn't share your pessimism.

Wasn't there a tweet that Edelman was running and cutting at full speed on Sunday (practicing in Foxboro)? If that's true, then add another two weeks "rest" and I really like his chances of being healthy.

Depends what you mean by "healthy." He will come out running around and looking like his old self. But the bones will not be as solid as they were before the break. The problem is that these bones take a long time to heal fully and are susceptible to refracture (see Bryant). Its like playing with your favorite toy that Dad glued a couple of hours ago; it looks and feels dry, but it isn't solid all the way through. He might be fine for a series, a game, or all three games. Nobody knows.

AJ, not trying to fight you, but I disagree with that.

All did not play. I bet some of them could and would have if it were the playoffs.

Just my opinion...

Hard to say really. HFA was on the line.
I know people are trying to argue that BB didn't care about that but I don't believe it, and if that were the case why did Brady and Gronk play?

Respectfully, I'm glad Gronk doesn't share your pessimism.
Why would he? I'm a fan with almost no real information about the health of these players, so I am pessimistic that everything is wonderful with them, and Gronk is a player on the team.

I don't see backup in case of injury as a high priority. I think upgrading key positions is more important

What positions? The point made earlier was about the ned t upgrade backup tackle.

That has been my point all along. The dots have not connected yet.

Who is in despair? The dots are not connected yet.

Players sitting out is a bad sign for their availability next game. Saying BB didn't care about HFA is rationalizing.

If that were the case he would have sat Brady, Gronk and Amendola.

There is a difference between saying BB is a genius and concluding that the only reason Edelman didn't play is because he could have and BB outsmarted everyone. If he is a genius (which he probably is) he would have played all of his healthy players to get the 1 seed, or if he didn't care (which I do not believe) he would have sat Brady and Gronk.
Picking both sides is only a rationalization to feel better about the pathetic end of the season.

I truly hope nobody ever asks you to make a decision.

He should have sat Brady and Gronk.

Actually, he gave the half squad the chance to win and if it happened.....great......otherwise.......OK.

Didn't anybody tell you that Gronk and Revis sat last year, week 17?

You're the one hung up on the #1 seed. Until you get over that, you're just going to keep going around in circles. You simply value that much more than what's called for.

Have a coke and a smile, man. You're much too angry all the time. It detracts from your otherwise quality posts.

shudder... There is a lot of hope and expectations riding on his foot. Mentally this would be a big blow.

They will likely pass to someone else.

You under value HFA. Road teams are 6-14 in conf champ games the last 10 years.
Your only counter argument is that you read bbs mind and determined he doesn't think that matters.
Not much left to discuss.

I will also point out that we had HFA clinched last year when we tested players since I guess no one told you that.
