Most people (including, ususally, Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels), if they are trying to win an NFL game, come up with a game plan other than run it up the middle and put our star QB in there and hope he can do something.

They did more than that. They tried to establish the run. Then they tried to run some fades with Gronk and Chandler to take advantage of their size where Miami is weak. They tried go patterns at least twice, a few screens and a shovel pass and a jet sweep, among other plays.

They have to get back to their usual offense, which they have not had the personnel to run for six weeks. In the past six weeks we have not seen the no-huddle offense, which is a potent weapon, because they have the best slot receiver in the game. The short and intermediate passing game just isn't there without Edelman because he is as quick as anyone on the field and is often open. The offensive line needs 5-6 guys playing together every practice and all game.

There had better be a scheme in place or the fans will be leaving by halftime.
Or might boo after the first drive considering some of the reactions here...

They were running up the middle because MIA was daring them to run with nickel d. The fact that they werent able to run effectively is another story.

But the question is WHY did we do things this way?

In my opinion, with Seabass out and the O line already thin BB thought keeping Gronk, Amendola, Brady healthy outweighed "possibly" playing the AFCCG on the road (yes, yes Brady got hurt but it didn't happen handing the ball off to Jackson). I also think the Jets inevitably choking and being the Same Old Jets factored in as well, but I'll stick to the question). BB elected to work on the running game with his newly acquired, much needed, power back. Maybe he felt the Patriots could control TOP, keep the Miami D on the field to a point where they gave up (like they usually do in December), and win with the basic plan.

So I think it was done to give the Patriots the best shot at winning the next game.

Dion Lewis would have had a field day yesterday. d%#*!@t.

But the question is WHY did we do things this way? Going in with no game plan got Brady injured and hit repeatedly. It lost us HFA. If you are going to give up HFA so easily then put Garropolo in for the whole game and be done with it. It's like the injuries have pschyed out the coaching staff more than the players. I am a Negative Nancy all right. Yesterday I said I was not coming back to this site unless the Pats won their next game, but of course, like the rubbernecker to the train wreck, I cannot look away. I also feel bad about not supporting the team in their hour of need, but come on, that was AWFUL yesterday. An embarrassment that rested nobody (except the guys who already weren't playing) and lost us a lot, including momentum for the playoffs. Brady can stand up there at the podium and say the last 6 weeks haven't mattered, but even he looks like he doesn't believe it. Did you watch all the other teams heading into the playoffs yesterday? They were all playing to win.

For me it's not the injuries - I get it we're limited and the guys out there are not pulling their weight, but the coaching has been atrocious. They have telegraphed that they don't think their team can win as currently constituted and we have to wait for a bunch of injured guys to get back (who by the way, haven't come back yet and will be rusty if and when they do) before we can even THINK (i.e. game plan) about being competitive. What happened to the next man up? What happened to doing the best you can with what you've got? The vibe emanating from this team is BAD. We are BAD and we know it. Putting everything on the shoulders of Edelman and Vollmer is a joke.

Okay, I am trying to get all the negative out in this post and will try to be more positive going forward. It's going to be tough though. I feel bad for Brady and hope his ankle is ok.

That is exactly how I feel. I just wish I understood why and that it isn't what I think, which is that BB truly believes our offense is that inept.

The same people who wanted to get rid of Brady at the beginning of last year. Hey smile everyone you could be Jets fans.

You get 2 weeks to ***** and moan about how this team is one and done and IF they win the divisional, then they are certainly done in Denver. Why bother to follow this team if all you do is complain. Guess what, they are still, worse case scenario, the 2nd seed, pretty damn impressive...many of you don't realize how good you have it...
Sorry to offend you Smiling Suzie but "real" fans can and do criticize their teams when it's called for. If that breaks your fragile little heart then just dry your tears with your satin hanky.
I am so tired of these lectures by you bandwagon riding pom pom waving faux fans on how us "real" fans should react.
If you don't like BLUNT REAL TALK ON THE GAME OF FOOTBALL then take a flying fu....errrr hike.

I've been a real fan for over 40 years and I wouldn't call your kvetching what a real fan does. The game plan doesn't always work especially when you have a lot of talent on the sidelines.

Bunch of f.cking b.tches. I hope this thread doesn't get locked so we can call it up after they win another Lombardi. Just like after the KC game last season where half the board wanted Belichick and Brady gone and Garrapolo at QB and then acted like they were with them all along when they won the Super Bowl. Adios quitter b.tches, enjoy the drop into the Charles.

First of all no one is calling for Belichick and Brady to be gone. The concern is that Brady is hurt. He is injured. That is a fact you can't avoid that will hurt our chances. He will play, but he may not be effective enough with the other issues around him. So if the Patriots lose in 2 weeks will you apologize?

We might as well be the number 1 seed cause Denver isn't winning a playoff game. Not Pitt, KC, or Cincinnati

  2. The Cincinnati Bengals (85), Miami Dolphins (87), and Denver Broncos (91) were the league’s least injured teams.
  3. The top IIT-av losses for a QB were Tony Romo ( 12 games missed, IIT-av of 4.406) and Peyton Manning (6 games, IIT-av 4.125).

Well, that's the same way that I see it too, but some tend to go overboard with their intense criticism and over the top pessimism. Those are the posters that need to be woken up. Luckily, there really aren't too many in my opinion, so extreme comments should probably be reserved for the posters who deserve them. It's okay to be pissed, to question certain things, and to even come out and say that you don't believe that this is our year (I am one of those posters in regards to the 2015 season, if I'm being truthful). Those who continue to piss on the team no matter what are the ones who need to re-assess why they wish to even post here.

In the end, we should try and be respectful of others' opinions no matter which way they fall, but we also need to remember that this is a fan site, so there will be an obvious bias--and rightfully so. In the end, all we can do is try to appreciate the great run that we're seeing, and the insane amount of grit that comes from having to constantly overcome so many challenges every year. That said, it's also okay to realize that we aren't going to win it every single year, and that there have been plenty of seasons which mimic the current one that have led to postseason losses. It's just the way it goes.

No one knows for sure, Andy, but I believe that Belichick approaches every game to play the players who can play, and to try and win the game, unless a scenario like last year's week 17 presents itself which equates to a meaningless matchup.

I think that's why we saw the franchise's top 2 players out there for almost every single snap over the past two weeks, despite other players not being able to go. I think they wanted to establish the run game, work on issues with the blocking and OL, and try and develop more of a connection with our passing game from guys like LaFell, Martin, White, Chandler, etc. Unfortunately, I don't think we saw any of those issues work.

I think the return of Edelman will be big in terms of getting us to that mid-20s point on offense (meaning that we'll be able to score more than ONE touchdown per game again), but I doubt that it's going to be the superman fix that most here expect. My concern is that the OL/run game are what holds us back, as well as less production from some of the role players in the passing game like last year. We desperately need a combo of Edelman returning to his normal self + guys like LaFell, Amendola, White, etc to shine like we saw over last year's run.

I see more over the top homerism than I do over the top pessimism. Notice the words over the top. These are the types of people that can't let a fan voice any amount of concern or doubt in the team without being called all kinds of names.

God forbid someone has an opinion on the team that isn't 100 percent "rah rah not a concern in the world let's go get em guys" type of opinion. Or worse.... What if someone thinks the pats might NOT win a particular game? He's just a fake fan that needs to go away.. Because real fans always think their team is gonna win no matter what.

This isn't directed at you personally but this part of your post just caught my eye. People should be allowed to be as optimistic or pessimistic as they want without it being a problem. Its their own personal opinion on the team and situation and doesn't make them any less of a fan for being on one side or another.

I don't mind homers. I mind the over the top homers that try to bully people into only having positive things to say and therefore making people scared or hesitant to ever voice an opinion that might not be as optimistic as the homers want.

Sorry, rant over. Again not aimed at you personally.

You guys don't criticize you quit. It's the equivalent of the fans who give up on the game and head to the parking lot only to realize you left too soon and want back in to the stadium so you can say you were with them all the way when they win. We can just chalk this one up as another season where those with no faith called it a season before the real season began, just like last year. You are the fairweather fans, not real fans.
Have fun at your post Dolphins tailgate sobfestival , I'm going to n watch them win n on the playoffs.

Quitter.

Being realistic is fine....Hey, I put my money where my mouth is every year. I go to watch the games win or lose, that doesn't mean that I expect them to win every game. In fact, I prefer to go to the games I feel they could lose.

The over the top homerism is for the young and idealistic.
