I don't know if anyone saw the stat WEEI posted regarding the Patriots success on 3rd down with Edelman and then from the time he got hurt. Here's the tweet Ryan posted:

I went ahead and pulled all the plays out of the database and here are some additional numbers:

The red zone passing percentage is deceiving because the bigger thing that stands out is the number of attempts, which is far lower with Edelman out of the line-up and that's obviously because they're not getting down in scoring territory as much. Needless to say, it's going to be nice to have him back - although it won't matter if the offensive line can't give Brady a little more breathing room.

Can you check the numbers for Amendola, Lafell, White and Gronkowski with/without Edelman.

Theory being when he's in the line up the defense has to dedicate CB 1 type attention to him and with him out that attention shifts down to our #2 WR etc......which might explain Lafell's drop off to some degree.

Just curious.

This is what we have been missing. If edelman is near 100percent i expect a totally different offense in two weeks

Sure, I can do that. I'll have to pull them out when I get home, I have all the plays on my desktop so I'll go through it and add that later tonight.

i don't remember how much edelman's injury correlates with losing OL depth, but I feel like even if edelman had played the last few weeks, there just hasn't been time to throw

Edelman/Gronk are the most important Skilled players on Offense...our Offense Sucks without either. If the situation have been reversed and Gronk was out for a while the numbers would be the same. We better hope Edelman is near 85% no setbacks because the Offense is nothing with him and Gronk.

LaFail is been a HUGE dissapointment no one would argue that Martin is better. LaFail can't even shake number #2 CB's he to is now the Scott Chandler of WR's Big for nothing.

As Julian Edelman's virtual agent, I will be advising my virtual client to request an offseason contract renegotiation and 24/7 access to Tom Brady's hairstylist

Edelman should get a raise, he has that much influence on the offense, and i'm serious.

I know others have mentioned this, but here's why Edelman is so crucial to this team's success. The OL is just not that good, and realistically they can't be asked to protect Brady for more than a couple of seconds. Edelman is one of the quickest (not fastest, but quickest) receivers in all of football, and so he can get open in the blink of an eye. So when he's playing, Brady's short passing game really takes off, and it makes the OL better.

Without him, Brady has to hold the ball just a bit longer, but that bit is enough for the defense to collapse our OL.

The offense really is completely different with him in there, precisely because of the type of receiver he is. If he's healthy, we'll see the entire offense look better.

Depending on how this season plays out, Edelman vs. Gronk has become a debate for 2nd most valuable Patriot.

Sorry, for some reason I can't see the graphics /stats that you posted, but one thing to keep in mind is that stats showing a breakdown of with and without Edelman essentially also equates to with/without Edelman & Deion Lewis.

I think Edelamn will certainly help big time when he comes back, but I'm sure Lewis's effectiveness was also a big factor in those third down conversions. Lewis got hurt in the second half of the Washington game and Edelman got hurt in the first quarter of the next game, so their departures were at relatively the same time.

May not be a popular opinion but IMO Edelman is more valuable in this offense than Gronk. He is open even when he's not open and the offense essentially runs through him; when he's not there the whole thing is far less efficient.

Don't get me wrong, Gronk is amazing and he's the best TE ever, but in this system, the primary quick-twitch WR is just more important, and Jules is amazing at it.

They're both equally important and they both benefit supremely from one another being in the line-up. We've seen in the past that this offense isn't good enough to win it all without Gronk and we've seen this year that it's not good enough to win without Edelman. That said, Edelman does much more to mask deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball (such as the OL) than Gronk. But both are important to this offense in order for the Pats to go all the way.

You're definitely right that they both help each other a lot. My opinion is that if you take away Edelman, you limit the offensive production more than if you take away Gronk - like you said, he masks OL deficiencies, etc.

Not just that, but our O-line is pretty good (not as good as some past lines, but still good) at getting in front of screens due to their athleticism. And there's no one better at catching the quick screen and making something happen than Edelman. He allows more plays that cater to the 0-line's strengths.

With LaFell I think there are a few things going on...

I believe LaFell is still fighting a foot issue which has hurt his production let alone not having a preseason or TC.

I also believe that because of his shoulder surgery not having an off-season to train and being matched up with CB1s has contributed to his fall-off in production.

With that said, he mentally seems in and out. Last year he seemed to grind more. Giving up on routes, etc. Making those goofy comments to the press about film review.

My perception only. Can't put my finger on it.

LaFell was our third option last year, and this year he played hurt a lot.

When he was cast into the #1 role and covered by the #1 CB, the results were on display..

I can. Regression to the mean.

I'd love to see pressure/sacks/hits numbers for Brady pre and post Edelman injury
