If and when, KC loses this week, thus falling to 1-6 and surly putting the icing on their season, can you use your Andy Reid connections and do what ever it takes to make a trade for Sean Smith. I can't help but to daydream about the possibility of him playing for our team this season. Yes, I do think we can get bye with our current roster, but Im really not looking forward to the nail biters later this season. Everything about Smith screams another Talib trade scenario. He's in his final contract year, and they almost certainly won't have the cap space to re-sign him, he just got off a 3 game suspension, and their season is clearly over. Why wouldn't they look to trade him and get something in return. Butler is an amazing player, but would be much better suited as a CB # 2 for another season before upping his role. I think the addition of him would do wonders for the team. He's very versatile and we have the cap space to fit him for the remainder of the season. With all the comps picks well be getting this coming off-season, i'd be willing to give up a 5th, possibly even a 4th. I think it would greatly increase our chances of making it back to the SB, and better yet, winning it.

Am I the only one who feels this strongly about this????
C"MON Bill, Trade the beast!

I agree with your premise, but to be honest Hawaii, 5-0 is a great record.

I like Smith...but the only way Butler isn't playing LCB is through injury. I'm hoping for the Wonder Twins to make a debut before the trade deadline.

Did the CB situation really need another thread?

Indeed it is. That said, CB is very thin. We're one injury away from Butler from having the worst crop of them in the league. If Belichick wants to make a trade for Sean Smith, I'm all for it. It would completely transform that corps and boost them up to one of the toughest corps of starting CB's in the league. Hell, I'm even cool with them bringing in Finnegan if they think he can still cut it. We just badly need some veteran depth. If they can get a starter out of it, even better.

I think we will see a trade for CB but it will probably not happen till about a week before the deadline for cap considerations.

I am curious if we will also trade for an OT.

As far as the CB situation goes BB seems to like his 3 safety look and the way Harmon is playing I wonder if that will make him shy away from using a pick to get a 1 year rental.

Smith has a 4.25 mil salary. If we traded for him he would cost us 2.39 in cap room for the remaining 9 games on his contract, with him also being unlikely to re-sign here for next season. If we we're going to trade with KC for a CB I'd like to see Marcus Cooper instead and he would come at a lot cheaper in trade value than Smith. Also he would be re-united with former Rutgers teammates Ryan and Harmon, not to mention alum McCourty. He was productive his rookie year with 42 tackles, 3 piucks and 21 passes defended but for whatever reason hasn't played since Oct. 4.

He's still on his rookie contract and would be a mere pittance for the remainder of this season, his salary next year is slated at $675 and he'll only be 26. At 6-1 he's got good lengtrh and maybe sometimes a guy like him just needs a change of scenery. No doubt he was on Bill's radar in the 2013 draft. If he could revive his career this would be the perfect spot IMHO. While Smith is obviously the more proven commodity, IF we're going to target a Cheif CB I'd personally prefer it be Cooper. It just makes to much sense from my perspective.

Irregarless, any move to be made has to happen by Nov. 3rd barring a waiver wire aquisition, which may happen in Cooper's case since he's just riding the pine at this point.

They are still shopping at various yard sales looking for a deal. See Coleman, Melvin, etc

They aren't quite ready to shop at Neiman Marcus. Smith is in the Men's Fashion section.

Maybe if they get a coupon they'll go for Smith or if the Jets' tall WRs destroy the Pats CBs.

Interesting take and maybe is a guy worth trading for as well but I think you really need a sure thing in here. I don't mind sticking with Butler as your #1 but you at least need a reasonable #2 beside him.

I notice we are pretty much talking about #1 CBs on a short term rental which would clearly be the best option but not much is being said about trading for a proven #2 option (IE another Tarell Brown kind of player). We have not really looked at those but they would solve the problem.

OT - why, at least on some vintage TV shows, was Hawaii represented by a single rising (ukulele?) note?

Twaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!!!

Honestly, yea we are thin at CB, but right now im more concerned with our situation at Tackle than CB. Besides I want to give Rasheen Melvin a chance.

Everyone wants another #1, but ignore the fact that Butler pretty good. He holds his own. I heard Bedard say something on Felger & Mazz a week or so ago, that he thinks Butler is better today, than Talib was when we first traded for him, and I agree. And I still think Butler only gonna get better. Skys the limit. He's learning on the job, while we are still winning. Perfect scenario.

And this is a perfect game schedule for Butler to learn on the job. Besides Eli Manning, we're not going up against any quarterback that I find intimidating.

I'm fine with any move to shore up CB, I doubt there is much they can do about OT, that will have to come from within.
