Anyone else have full confidence in Marcus Cannon?

I think cannon could start at right tackle for many teams. Left tackle? I'm a little worried.

That's the bottom line for this entire thread, and we won't know the answer for weeks or possibly even months.

If Cannon doesn't look at good at LT, he'll flip with Vollmer and go back to where many think he should play. Perhaps he surprises some of us and looks like a quality franchise protecting LT. That question will be answered in time.

Cannon was in a walking boot at Gillette today, so there's obviously a chance that he misses a game or two.

Aside from Vollmer and Fleming, we have Josh Kline--who's played all 5 positions before in college. Could that explain the sudden interest in bringing another guard onto the practice squad, or is it merely coincidental?

None of this discussion will matter if that toe injury is a big deal. We'll get an idea tomorrow.

Interesting that Kline is quietly becoming a very productive player, certainly at guard this year. It would be interesting if he could also be an break-the-glass dire emergency OT.

I liked Cannon when the Pats drafted him. I think he had a first day draft grade prior to it, and then he had to have treatment for cancer. I figured him more for a guard than a tackle though. He should be adequate as RT, not sure about LT. And it's too bad because Vollmer is better as RT than LT. I have faith it will work out in the end.

I've been higher than most on Kline now for awhile, and if I didn't know any better, I'd think some here confused him with Jordan Devey judging by some of the comments about him this past summer. It blew my mind to see so many automatically assuming 2 rookies starting at the guard spots when we just saw quality play by Kline in both the divisional and conference rounds during the postseason.

I have no idea if he could play tackle in a pinch, but Mike Reiss noted the possibility in his last mailbag. After all, Kline did play at all 5 positions while in college at Kent State. I would have to imagine that he could get the job done in some capacity, and may even be the next man up after Vollmer/Fleming. That would depend on how guys such as Barker and Williams look to Bill Belichick at OT.

I'd rather have Vollmer on the left side and Cannon or Fleming on the right. The problem is that Vollmer is not very durable, if he goes down we are doomed, we are thin at tackle right now. With Wendell returning and in a few weeks Stork, that could give more insurance at center and guard, but tackle is still a position to keep an eye on and actually it was an area of concern in the off season and before the draft, it was weird to see BB draft 2 pure guards instead of a player who can play both guard and tackle, not that I'm complaining I love these choices but I wanted them to take a flyer on Lael Collins because at the time Solder's future was uncertain and even his extension is only for another 2 years.
