Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

ESPN says ILB, Reiss says OLB. Which is it?

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Before we think our LB needs are solved, can I throw out the names Mincey and Claridge.

You can.

But make sure you mention the following:

Mincey was cut because he had a lax attitude, figuring that the didn't have to work as hard because he'd be given a year to learn the system.

Claridge would have been a good player, more than likely, except that he hurt his shoulder in camp and then his psyche was shattered when he brother died.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

nfl.com lists Justin Rogers as an OLB at 6'4 265. I've never heard of him, but we'll see.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

BB must not like this draft at all to be drafting guys who aren't even in the top 30 of their respective positions...

Rogers was the 45th rated DE... 6'3 - 252 - 4.76

Pats have their own internal ratings.
But yes BB didn't like this draft very much except for Meriweather.

The Pats could draft the 3 stooges from here on out and it would still be a huge success considering we added Moss, Meriweather and Welker. How sweet it is.

Who's top 30? I don't think he really cares much for the opinions of anyone bar his own, his coaches and his scouts and talent evaluators.

Which is all that really matters.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Miami takes Reagan Mauia (RB)

Re: Official 2007 Patriots Draft Thread

:woohoo: Justin Rogers, now we're bringing in some LB hopefuls.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

AH, dang. Wendling went to Houston!

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Who the heck is Justin Rogers...

Is he a 290 lb DE? or is he a smaller one who can translate into an OLB?

Projects to ILB, from Scout.com:
Justin Rogers ILB SMU 6-4, 250

Strengths: Powerful with good strength. Productive college player. Shows good field awareness. Physical player that never gives up. Hard worker on and off the field. A team leader.

Weaknesses: Not a great athlete. Limited room to improve.

Comments: Rogers put in a great deal of effort to get to where he is, he came to SMU as a 198 pound defensive lineman.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Adam Hayward (LB) to the Titans
Kasey Studdard (G) to the Texans

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Yup it would have been nice to pair him up with Meriweather. Oh well. Still more picks to go in the 6th.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

Brandon Siler has to have something happen to fall this far. Justin Rogers?

Wendling to the BILLS!

GAH

I'll be honest, that kind of annoys me. I really think Wendling could be a star, especially in NE's system.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

after 7 years i can't believe there are still people who would rather BB/Pioli draft according to the rankings rather than their own determination of who should be on the team.

do you guys let yahoo autodraft your fantasy teams as well?

Interesting Pick IMHO:

Justin Rogers DE/OLB 6-3 252 4.76 Had 7.5 sacks as a senior. Bench pressed 225 lbs. 18 times. Broad jump 9'9". Vertical 34". Definitely helped himself. Could be a sixth- or seventh-rounder for a team needing a linebacker in the 3-4.

That's not about rankings, I just really thought Wendling could be good in NE's defense.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 6th Round Discussion

From NFLDraftScout.com:

Justin Rogers - DE/OLB/LS

Pro-Day - 6'3 1/8" 252 lbs
40: 4.74
20: 2.69
10: 1.58

Reps: 19
Broad: 9'9"
Vertical: 34 in
Shuttle: 4.28
3 Cone: 7.32

Maybe the Pats will move him inside. Maybe he'll be like another Vrabel and do both. Who knows.

The drafters apparently did not see that lax attitude when they drafted Mincey.

Of course, Randy Moss is the epitome of lax attitude, but overwhelming talent can overcome some things. (I'm a big fan of that deal, and any deal with that much upside.)

My bottom line is that while I hope all our low rounders turn into Tom Bradys at their positions, we should not expect much from anyone drafted on day 2 unless it's a special situation and not look to anyone on Day 2 as the answer to anything. if they were, someone would have taken them on Day 1.
