Sign the Beast(s) XXII: Sooo... what now? How to improve the defense.

we have the worst defense in the division atm.
but at least we saved some money for kraft!
Really?

Hightower, Jones and Collins all coming up on the docket. Sign revis today and keeping even one of the three becomes a problem.

We have 2 3rd and 4th round picks this year that should be enough for Lewis and a Saint team that's blowing it up.

Jones better stop vanishing in games if he expects to be hard to sign. I like the kid, but this forum way overrates him. You would think he was one of the premier pass rushers in the league, yet whole stretches of games go by without ever hearing his name.

People pay for names. There's always one team like the Redskins out there.

My concern is that you're onto something here.

While he does have raw skills, I don't think he's come close to reaching his potential yet. Whether he does or not is anyone's guess, but I don't think we can keep all 3 anyway (Collins, HT, Jones). Luckily we may not have to deal with any of them until 2017, although the two first rounders will be expensive vs the 2016 cap if/when they pick up their 5th year options in May.

I do agree that he's a bit overrated as much as I love him, but I also feel for him, I swear every time he gains momentum during a season he gets injured and never appears to be fully back.

He showed a lot of promise early as a rookie, gets hurt, doesn't show much else.

Has a fantastic sophomore season.

Starts off 2014 decent, gets hurt, never seems to regain what he had to start, much like his rookie year.

BB is great but he is by far not perfect. It came down to 4 million dollars difference in guarantee money if thats what u believe. I just wonder why we cant keep a steady defense. Now he has to get creative on defense and draft another player on the secondary!! We have seen this picture before!!

I think it doesnt help jones when these other linemen cant collapse the pocket. Knighton could be interesting.

And some number that could have been significantly greater than $4M in fully guaranteed money, which supposedly what it really came down to.

If it comes down to keeping 2 out of 3, in my mind, it's a no brainer to keep Hightower and Collins ahead of Jones.

That would be my concern, too.

While many here assume that he's going to be retained, I'm not really sure what I'd choose to pay him yet. He's still kind of a mystery in some ways due to the reasons you've stated.

we don't have a #2 CB on the roster..maybe dennard but i doubt it.

We just guaranteed 30m to McCourty, stop with this "cheap" ****. We gave a TE the highest paying deal, ever, twice, over a few month span, at the time.

We gave a LG the highest paying deal ever, at the time.

We gave a QB in his late 30s 100% guaranteed contract.

We've made NT's and WR's close to the highest paid ever.

We gave a safety the most guaranteed money, ever, a few days ago.

This team isn't cheap, they're smart, and they've won more than 28% of the Superbowls and played in 42% of them in the past 14 seasons.

BB has plans, and he has plans incase those plans fall through. And then there are plans in case those fall through.

There is a very legitimate chance we're playing in the Superbowl again next season no matter who plays corner for us. The AFC is very week and the only real challenger has the #1 choker in NFL history on their roster.

The runner up for the title this year just traded away their first round pick and their best offensive linemen on a not so great OL for a TE who can't block and eats up cap they need to use on their QB.

GB has some horrendous coaching and will need Aaron Rodgers, who hasn't exactly been clutch in the playoffs, to win in spite of McCarthy.

Dallas was only good because they found balance and are now seemingly likely to lose the reason they had balance, Murray.

We're still about as good as it gets in the NFL and we haven't made a single addition outside of Gibson, who might not even play for us.

fair enough, just upset that we lost the best corner in the league.

That's understandable, but moves will be made.

We lost the best corner to a team with far more money available, that he was drafted by and played in for 6 seasons, to the richest CB deal in history.

It sucks, but it wasn't for lack of effort, Revis himself said he never wanted to leave NY, he helped us get a ring, which is something the Jets fans can never take away. Their franchises best player in its history put us over the hump to get a SB and he will never bring one to New York without the flying Elvis imprinted on the front.

youre right.

belichick has to have some sort of plan. the corner market really is dreadful though.

They are gonna have to add some very special pieces on defense to survive this. I just wonder if there was some complacency because they just deliver a superbowl so fans wont go crazy attitude here. I wanted brady to go down like elway in the latter stages of his career.

Darrelle Revis was a part not the part that won the Patriots the Super Bowl. If the OL protects Brady and Gronk stays healthy, the Patriots are perennial contenders.

**** me there are some crybabies out right now.

We just lost our teams 3rd best player, one that was integral to winning a Super Bowl, but oh boy we are sure crybabies worrying about it

Yeah man it totally sucks because Brady retired and so we should talk about him past tense like that, definitely.

The Revis deal was a 1 year deal and he's a mercenary in the truest form, Deion Sanders without baseball, doing as he pleases. He is not on the team anymore. It's been one day of free agency.

I hope you have had your cry and you can look up and see that the sun will rise and the Patriots will still be the model franchise in the NFL come this date in 2016. You cannot replace a Hall of Famer, but you don't have to. You just have to be better than the teams that you're playing on any particular day. I'll take my chances with the GOAT QB, TE, and HC over the Jaguars or the Jets or any of the big splash day one winners.
