I think the Patriots could definitely use a guy like DeMarco Murray, I really don't see Blount to be solid for us the whole season, he is not a game changer, and Ridley, well he hasn't been good for us so far and most likely the Patriots will not resign him.
I'd say since we cleared enough cap space for Revis, might as well get him and run the ball down teams throats.

I also would like to see us sign Spiller, he would fit on our system well and he will probably be even better than Shane.

Defense.

I think that would be an overreaction. I think we need to spend the Revis savings on the defense, not Murray.

Demarco Murray is the best RB in the NFL, and in his prime. He would make our offense the best in the league by a large margin, and clear superbowl favorites. I am all for it. Our offense alone would be good enough to take us to the superbowl. When has Brady ever had a RB like Murray? Our O would be unstoppable.

Nope. Running backs are a dime a dozen. Load up on d-line and secondary. Get potroast.

disagree . no. im just so angry

What value would bringing in higher priced RBs provide in a "running back by committee" system?

It doesn't seem to make much sense, unless we're not going to use the RBBC system.

Why? We have the goat at qb. Why do we need a rb of that level. Before people bring up Dillon please note that TB was a newbie and while he was good he was not goat good at that time.

No thanks

Because a great passing game is made of a good running game and lets face it, we can't expect Brady to throw the ball 40+ times each game at this point in his career, we need a RB to carry the work load and make plays happen.

I know we need to focus on defense, but we need to keep improving our offense, defenses will make adjustments next year to shut down the Patriots and we need to come up with new players to make their lives miserable.

2004 Corey Dillon says hello.

Of course we need a rb and a running game. All I am saying is that any above average rb will do. We do not need a top 5 or whatever rb.

People need to stop being so dismissive about running backs...we need one, we ain't got a playmaker back there, and during the playoffs that will hurt, especially without someone like Vereen.

Who's being dismissive? The poster says that Brady has never had a running back as good as Murray. I corrected him. At $9 million/year I don't want Murray. I would've liked to have seen Vereen resigned, but what do I know? I also wanted Revis resigned. It should be entertaining over the next few days at least.

Just grab Gurley at 32

If 5th and 6th years are considered "newbie" status, then I guess that's what Brady was.

I get your point about the possibility of a better RB, but I think Dillion was still providing pretty decent value, cap-wise, particularly since he was coming off of a down year where he was injured and also restructured the remaining 2 years left on his deal to provide cap relief to N.England.

how about no
