Teams are going to be fighting over Torrey smith and jerermy maclin now. Maybe even crabtree

I think Smith is going to get $8-9 million and the team that pays him will be regretting it. The guy is the ultimate tease. He will play like a superstar one game and then disappear for a month. No consistency in his game. And he is soft (teams have been successful shutting him down by roughing him up) and an one trick pony. I don't get the love for the guy.

Eagles offered Maxwell a big contract. Supposedly it's between SEA and PHI now.

JaysonBraddock
The Eagles have set the parameters of a deal for Maxwell that consists of 6 years $63 million with $23.5 mil fully guaranteed. $13.5 year 1

Byron Maxwell still hasn't agreed in principle. Really likes Seattle, will give them chance to counter. 1st offer (SEA) back loaded.

Randall Cobb had 6-7 offers today, I’m told. He turned down considerably more money elsewhere to sign with the #Packers.

Obviously false report
I know from reading this forum that that never happens

If we don't pick up the option on Revis and he signs elsewhere, does he become part of the compensatory pick equation for next year. And the same applies to Wilfork. Is he considered "cut" or a FA?

I think it's clear -- if you're cut you're cut and not part of the equation. Correct me, please, if I'm wrong.

Right, but they haven't been cut, their options weren't picked up (assuming that for Revis).

1) Both Revis and Wilfork were under contract for 2015.

2) The option has to do with compensation for the coming year.

3) The condition of these options is that that they are earned if the player is under contract at the end of the 2014-2015 season. Wilfork has been cut. If we don't have a deal with Revis, then he will be cut.

4) The CBA doesn't (and IMHO shouldn't) provide compensatory picks to team that cut players under contract for upcoming year. The compensatory system is for players whose contract runs out.

=========
TO PUT IN ANOTHER WAY
We have Dennard under contract for 2015. Why not cut him now and get a compensatory pick?
The reason that this cannot be done is that he is under contract for 2015.

If what you suggest were to be allowed, almost all contracts would have this type of option included.

@eaglescentral: Per @JaysonHaddock, Byron Maxwell's deal is five years and 53-54 million with 25 million guartanteed. #Eagles

He's not worth it. Not by a long shot.

I think that you mean that you don't believe that Maxwell is worth $10M a year to the patriots.

This signing is one of the market setters.

If I were a PHI fan, I would be happy that my 10-6 team is doing what it needs to do to improve. Signing Maxwell and perhaps McCourty for $20M AAV is just what a competitive team with over $40M in cap room might do to improve its secondary.

As I have been saying, over and lever again, is that problem for the patriots in re-signing McCourty and Revis is NOT the jets.

There are lots and lots of teams with lots and lots of cap money. In addition, there are teams that have lots of cash that they must spend in 2015 and 2016. The reality may NOT be that Maxwell isn't worth $10M a year. The reality may be that he is worth exactly that in the 2015 off-season market.
==========
How much should the patriots be willing to pay McCourty and Revis? Yes, this is somewhat dictated by the fact that the patriots are one of the only teams over the cap at the moment.

The current market seems to indicate that the patriots will need to pay more than most here would pay in order to keep Revis and/or McCourty. Both will have lots of bidders on the open market, and probably some from competitive teams like PHI.
=======
BOTTOM LINE
The following teams have over $25M in cap space. IMHO, I can see players choosing at least one of these teams if the goal was good money from a competitive team.
PHI
INDY
GB
ATL
CHI
CIN
SD
SEA
It is not the case that players can choose between the patriots and teams at the bottom of their divisions.

I am trying to tell myself how this team is in cap hell lol

@EliotShorrParks: Sense I get is #Eagles feel confident. RT @PhilEPoop any update status today on devin mccourty? #eagles

@EliotShorrParks: #Eagles continuing to strongly pursue Devin McCourty. #patriots #giants http://t.co/4nXQZXjfRW

Looking around at the numbers being reported I have to ask: More valuable to the Patriots — Revis at $18M-20M per, or McCourty at $1oM per?

@scottzolak: Have a feeling McCourty will be gone folks. Tons of cash out there

Is Maxwell really that good?

He played on a team that had Sherman on the other side, man-upping whomever was over there, and with probably the best safety in the league leaning his way.

And on a team that built a DL to get after the passer.

I think he's average. 10+ a year for him is batshit crazy. Browner's better and we've got him for under 5/per.

Having money under the cap is all well and good, but contracts last more than a year. And for every Maxwell you're paying that kind of change, you're not developing any home-grown talent (again, I think Maxwell is average and nowhere near top-tier).

that's not the issue

I'm just a bit tired of reading so many threads about the jets. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I don't really care about the jets who haven't won a SB since their QB wore panty hose.

Buffalo and Miami are improving and could be competitive for a playoff spot.

Many, many teams have cap money.

Personally, I don't think that the season will have anything to with the jets, who have almost always stood up to their motto J-E-T-S.

Personally, I don't think that the jets will be any more of a player in the offseason than many other teams.
