Pretty sure noone here expected both Revis and McCourty to hit FA and they likely will. These are logical outcomes.

Pats never had the cap room to tag McCourty. And once you don't tag him it's in his interest to atleast check out what others are willing to pay him even if he wants to come back to Patriots. Randy Moss did that too.

And Pats also don't have the cap room or the inclination to pay the 2nd year of Revis' contract so they will release him. And it is again in his interest to test the FA before deciding.

So it is logical for both players to hit the FA, which none of the "most knowledgeable Patriots fans" had been expecting. I am merely taking it one step further by saying that Revis will stay true to form and go to the highest bidder now that he has a Superbowl. And McCourty likely will get offered a contract which will make any Patriots offer pale in comparison partly because of Harmon's play. So I expect us to lose both in FA. It's nothing radical. It's quite logical.

So, in true Bill Belichick mode, it's not about who was in 2014's team. It's all about who will be in 2015 team. That's what this thread is about. It's forward looking. Not moping about the bygone era.

McCourty is an elite FS. Mayo was worth his contract when it was signed.

Based on recent past experience, I would suggest that it is far from a foregone conclusion that both players are gone.

I would have to go back and look up the specifics, but I definitely recall every year for the past several seasons that many jumped to the conclusion that players would depart since they were not re-signed prior to the start of free agency, based on the then-current cap situation. Randy Moss, Matt Light, Sebastian Vollmer and Julian Edelman are a few that come to mind, though I am sure there are many others in this category as well.

Respectfuly, I will take a wait and see approach based on the past rather than assume both will be playing elsewhere in 2015.
