An even bigger debate than Harris/Beason is the one between safeties Michael Griffin & Brandon Meriweather. Which do you like if both are available?

Can I trade that 1st for a 2nd + 3rd and take Piscitelli & Gattis instead?

This under the assumption that no trade is available

Griffin is the safer pick at this point. BB will do his homework though and I'll support his decision whichever way he goes.

It depends on what you want? Pure FS or a tweener.

Merriweather is a pure FS with the speed to play CB and he can thump with the best of them. He is also a natural leader in the secondary, but has some questionable character. Medium high risk but potentially very high return.

Griffin can play either safety and is smart and assignment sound. Low risk medium at best reward.

hows he a safer pick? the Texas secondary blew...they gave up plays after plays. Meriweather sitll had a tremendous season and Miami's D in general was very good

i def like merriweather better in this vote
griffin is a very solid tackler, but he could be another one of those bb safety picks (tackler who cant cover)
merriweather on the other hand is a playmaker, and i think he has a shot (no lock, but a shot) at being a big time player at the next level

I'm leaning towards no safety in the first--deep enough to get one later--I'm thinking OL/LB or OL/DL if we stand pat in the first

I like Griffin. I've been hoping that the Patriots pick him all along.

I would certainly have no problems if Meri's name gets called, but the explosive ST ability of Griffin puts him on top for me.

Who's this Meriweather guy? I don't have him on my board - anywhere.

Griffin. We need a physical presence in the backfield. Griffin has it.

Like too Meriweather. Rather a cover guy. So, it is mainly a philosophical choice...

Can't be true. He is one of the top 4 safeties. Last september, he was a clear number 2 behind Landry.

What I mean is, I have removed Meriweather from first-round consideration.
If he's available at 91, I'll think about it.

I like Griffin better than Meriweather only because Griffin seems to have his head screwed on a little tighter.

But I'd be happy with either.

Landry is the top of the class but to me Reggie Nelson would be our pick. Every video I see of this guy (and I've watched a lot now), he's got a fluidity to his game that I can't explain.

The only guy I've seen flow to the ball the way he does is Ed Reed.

He definitely is NOT the run defender that Reed is, but amongst current draftees he's head and shoulders of the rest as a pass defender.

If you look at our upcoming season, going against Indy, Cincy, Jets and Dallas, it'd be nice to have a dominating centerfielder deep in our defensive backfield.

If he could just be adequate against the run, I'd be happy.

He has first round talent. The question is: does he has enough maturity to overcome his past character problems....

:agree: and IMO I think he's to risky to use a first rounder on.

Griffin > Meriweather
