We had one of the best offenses in the NFL. Can we bring everyone back? IMHO, we will likely draft an OG and RB in any case.

Solder
Amendola
Gostkowski
Connolly
Vereen
Ridley

SOLDER is the key. He currently counts $7.45M against the cap.

If they cut ties with Solder, that would bring up a lot of woulda coulda shouldas about:

1. Trading Seymour.
2. Not trading up for Watt.

The pick before Houston was traded for less draft currency than the Patriots used to draft Solder and Dowling.

More importantly, it would bring up having to find someone to guard Brady's blind side next year. Solder was pretty damn good when it counted this year. I know I don't want to see Cannon there.

Absolutely not.

Cannon is a RT, plain and simple (in my opinion).

That depends upon the salary cap for the 2015 NFL Season:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/01/29/nflpa-salary-cap-projection-2015/22559403/

Last year, for instance, the cap jumped from $123 million to a record $133 million – much higher than the league's original projections. The NFL management council informed teams last month the 2015 cap is expected to be $138.6 million to $141.8 million. The union disagrees and will issue its own projections before the NFL scouting combine begins Feb. 17, Smith said.

I don't usually play the "what if" game too often, although I have spoken of being disappointed in the past as it pertains to not moving up for Watt, since he seemed like a "sure thing." That said, we really have no idea if they tried to move up or not, so I try and hold off on judgement.

In this case, I've never thought about Solder + Dowling. That's a shame.

Interesting that 3 of the 5 cornerbacks active for the New England Patriots during Super Bowl XLIX were originally undrafted free agents:

Arrington
Browner
Butler

Very interesting.

The Alfonzo Dennard situation is definitely something to keep an eye on in my opinion. I can honestly say that I'm not exactly sure what we have (or don't have) there quite yet. I'm certainly not ready to scratch him off the list yet, although Belichick obviously knows much better.

If the New England Patriots retain all six cornerbacks that were on the 53 man roster this past season and sign practice squad cornerbacks Justin Green and Daxton Swanson to futures contracts, the New England Patriots will have eight cornerbacks for the 2015 training camp prior to unrestricted free agency and the 2015 NFL Draft.

Solder played well down the stretch. He is a keeper. Cant mess around with that offensive line.

Amendola aint coming back unless he takes a paycut. The guys i worry about are wilfork and mayo.

I think they will keep Solder. When healthy, he is a great tackle. He was not a great tackle for the first half of the season this year (at least.) I think he will sign for reasonable money (highest olineman on the team,) because nobody other than the pats know if he was bad due to injury or technique, esoecially with the new coach. My take is he had a minor injury impede him but my take means nothing to the league player personnel. They can't bring him into a new system if he is that fragile psychologically (new coaches throw him off).

I think Gost is gone. He will get a dome where he will kick until 65.

Amendola stays. He is an excellent slot receiver, he's just been injured. He was clutch in the playoffs. Everybody sees this, but again: how bad were his injuries? Only patriots staff know. Too big a risk for other teams.

Connolly. This guy perplexes me. No clue.

Vereen is gone. He torched Seattle. He is bound for the NFC.

Ridley. Coming off a knee injury, he could be short money.

They're nuts if they get rid of Gost. I saw so many teams ****ed over by bad kickers this year.

I agree with you, but I just think BB places higher value upon retaining or acquiring players vs a guy that can kick marginally better. (I'm not saying that to disparage Gost, btw.)

But if you can hire a guy to kick 45 yarders regularly for under a million, what is the added value of 50 yards regularly for 3-4 mill vs hiring multiple other players that can be used as backups when injuries occur?

I realize the answer is you can win a super bowl with the higher value guy, but you have to get there first. Both strats seem sound to me.

I really think BB prefer quantity in such a situation. Again, just my guess, we are all speculating

If anything our team knows better than others the importance of having a solid kicker. Gost ain't going anywhere imo.

the thing about getting rid of solder, it would have less to do with his ability, and more so how much the Pats would value him over his replacement. When you have a team as deep at every position as ours, if you are extending a player for multiple years, he either has to come in cheap, or be among the very best at his position. I know he is definitely starter quality, I am just not sure if you pay him the 8figures to keep him around with all the other needs on the team.

In another thread, it turns out that Coach Gug says Solder is the 2nd-based LT in the league. So I imagine they're keeping him ...

yep, its quite possible, but i wouldnt guarantee it. I could see it either being Solder or McCourty coming back, not that it definitely has to be either or, but their dollars out will be comparable.
