Okay, fair enough--they "examined" the footballs thoroughly and checked the air pressure, although I have seen reports where they claim that they weigh a certain amount in ounces if they are between 12.5 and 13.5 of pressure, so I'm not seeing the relevance of your concern.

One should assume that they likely did an all around examination, so you really don't know what that consists of any more than I do. Either way, I really don't know what difference it makes to choose such an innocuous (possible) error and choose to point that out?

I think it would be impossible to weigh these balls because of the rain.

I'm sure Kraft wishes they had weighed them. The water soaked leather would have taken them over the hump.

AND, I wonder if people who did these inside/outside weather tests on balls doused them in 45 degree water before measuring them.

I don't think the Hernandez situation is particularly analogous; it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Hernandez was going to be arrested as soon as the weapons were pulled out of his safe.

That's one of the most disappointing aspects. The fact that we should be discussing individual matchups, injuries, etc.

Hell, while no other team's fanbase are going to feel sorry for us, we've waited awhile for this opportunity just the same, and going through this absolutely sucks. I'm not going to lie--the way I feel right now I think I may have rather seen a loss Sunday if it meant avoiding all of this (understanding that it wouldn't have mattered). Going through this sucks ass on a big-time level, especially for a second time.

You may not get this, Joey, but there is a difference between what you want to happen and what is probably going to happen. And what is your speculation helping?? All I've been seeing you look at is a s*** ton of speculation and not enough of the facts in this deal. Not saying I'm looking hard into facts, it's just I've never even seen you post before this whole debacle unfolding. How about waiting until official reports that actually put two and two together before making your conclusions rather than running around stating that BB will get suspended and the SB will get thrown and all that??

I'm not saying we won't get a harsh punishment. I'm not saying we'll simply get out of this without any consequence. I'm just saying you seem to be jumping to a lot of conclusions on this, mostly because "Jay Glazer told you so."

It's not as easy as it sounds,
plus rules about the ball boys:

The referee "shall be the sole judge as to whether all balls offered for play comply with these specifications" and the balls "remain under the supervision of the Referee until they are delivered to the ball attendant just prior to the start of the game," according to Rule 2, Section 1.

A person with intimate knowledge of the process told USA TODAY Sports the ball attendant is a uniformed official – generally the same person each week at a given stadium – who comes to the locker room to pick up the balls and takes them to the officials' locker room for testing.

The ball attendant delivers the balls to the ball boys – usually four provided by the home team and two traveling with the visiting team – who make sure their quarterback's preferred balls get into the game, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly.

At halftime, the balls return to the officials' locker room, the person said. So, if proper protocol is followed, the only opportunity to manipulate the balls is minutes before kickoff or during the game on the sideline, where there's a risk of anyone in the stadium and dozens of TV cameras seeing it.

Asked how long it takes to change and measure the pressure of a football, the person said, "Ten seconds. But if they were all exactly 2 pounds under? It would be almost impossible to get them exactly all the same weight or the same psi.

"That, or you'd have to be really good at knowing exactly where to pull the needle. And then what if you take too much out? How are you going to pump it back up on the field? You can't. You need a ball pump to do it. That's what's even more weird about it. Too many moving parts."

I actually thought of a brilliant gambit Kraft can pull. Have pats admit to guilt (assuming no definitive proof) on contingency that league recognizes the limits are arbitrary and meaningless and give no advantage.

New rule is put in books to change limit from like 10 to 16 or whatever which gives teams more control.

Then Pats are guilty of violating a silly rule and are punished accordingly but league recognizes there was no serious competitive advantage.

I see your point, but it sounds a bit like spy gate where Goodell actually came right out and said that it gave the team "no competitive advantage," yet not one person heard anything like that. They all just heard the guilty parts, which is what my personal concern is this time as well.

The more probable explanation is the Ref who checked the balls let them slide thru because its not that big of a deal.

Well, if there is a silver lining, then I suppose that there is still no word from the league on a resolution to their investigation.

However, it is very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff comprising this miasma of speculation and half-truths, innuendos and tidbits.

We simply do not have enough information at this time, which has led to a lot of guesswork on the part of media and fellow posters alike, with a lot of the conjecture drawing off of the Spygate fallout.
