Ross....not sure i agree with you...yet again. According to him Brady must win tomorrow to be a GOAT. But what if he loses AFC Champ game...that will be ok?

I think he needs to win this year. The disappointments (team disappointments) have been mounting lately.
2009 Brady's legacy got a complete pass, because everybody loses sometimes, he was coming off an injury, etc etc etc

2010 Brady's legacy gets another pass for similar reasons, he was the league's first unanimous MVP, still fairly hot off a 50 TD season, etc.

2011 Superbowl loss. Brady's legacy doesn't get nearly enough credit for dragging that defense to the Superbowl, but it is what it is.

2012 Brady's legacy starts taking some heat with this loss coming off the way we advanced past Baltimore in 2011.

2013 Manning gets 55 and becomes media darling for the first time in years over Tom, who takes all kinds of heat for hurting peoples fantasy football teams throwing to Mulligan, Thompkins and Edelman. Bad AFCCG performance.

This year the wagons are circling. Trent Dilfer. ESPN. Boston radio.

He's a pretty well solidified #2 all time, but he can't reach #1 convincingly outside our fan base without #4 now.

Whatever unleashes Psycho Tom, I'm all for it.

The good news is, if we win this year and he gets the 4th ring monkey off his back, then we start talking about a record setting ring #5, and that changes the discussion back in his favor incredibly.

But if he loses this game...do you think any less of him and his status..yes or no

No, to me he is number 2 all time right now. Nothing can drop him in the immediate future. Luck may do it one day. TO me, for Brady to be the GOAT, he at least needs the 4th. If he got a 5th, then there is no argument.

Pats fans, no. Other fans, probably.

Well if you aren't a pats fan..chances are you hate us a lot already and have manning and other QBs way ahead of Brady that don't deserve to be there. The GOAT will always be talked about for different QBs. But if Brady wins this 4th. No question GOAT

I certainly wouldn't think any less of Tom, but if we lost to the Ravens, depending on how that loss happened, the counter-arguments against Tom become a lot stronger.

Brady won 3 Superbowls in his first four years as a starter in the league. At that time everyone really thought the kid (then) was going to do incredible things before the end, He hadn't even entered his prime and he was already chasing Montana and Terry's #4.

Needless to say, the bar and expectations were really high.

He really needs that 4th ring now. The constant knocking on the door but failing to get through have inspired a lot of hate, and like he says, `Nobody is going to feel sorry for the Patriots.` You see sensible fans outside ours sometimes who are as willing to explain it away with injuries and helmet catches, but not everyone is so understanding.

If he plays like garbage and is a big part to why we lost yes. I don't think brady has been playing particular well in the playoffs lately. I'm still waiting for him to have that one great consistent playoff run and play great in every game. Kinda like flacco did a couple of years ago.

Well this IS the best D we are taking into the playoffs since...well maybe since our last SB run 10 years ago. And we basically could have won 2 others with just OK Ds

Did you see this commercial during the college bowls? Check it out.

Manning has a lot of stupid fanboys but his status as the Manchurian quarterback won't last beyond retirement. It's all about the rings. In twenty five years, if someone tries to tell a 20 year old NFL fan that the biggest playoff choker of all time is the greatest, that 20 year old fan, not being emotionally invested in it, is going to laugh in his face.

Manning is no threat to Tom's status. He's just a pain in our ass right now with the media worship.

That won't last.

I remember when Marino retired, lots of people on ESPN were selling him as the GOAT that never won, because the were his fans, they were emotionally invested in his play, and it was the there and then.

Notice how nobody says it now.

if tom loses, he has 3 one and dones...as many as aaron rodgers ironically. while forehead has like 8-9.
lol

another win and tom adds another victory to his playoff win record!

tom hasn't had a good playoff game since that game against denver in the division round a few years ago. before, that idk...i guess the first SB against the giants where he lead us to the game winning drive before the tyree catch...

atm montana is the GOAT, he's untouchable.

Brady's case is strong.
3 rings.
5 appearances.
8 AFC Championship games.
Most play off wins.

That's a legit resume and it will stand the test of time.

But Montana has 4 rings and 4 perfect Superbowls where he didn't throw a single interception.

I honestly think Tom is the GOAT because as cool as Joe Cool was, he was much more of a game manager than the fire breathing Tom Brady who attacks the the field like the #%$#ing Terminator, but people aren't going to give it to him until he has #4.

#4 this year would really be helpful, because chasing #5 will be a big NFL romance bromance story for the rest of his career.

Then Manning's legacy as GOAT should enter the conversation (unless we talk regular season only and even then there's that dome thing).

Manning has no legacy as GOAT lol.

Comparing Manning to Montana directly, without letting him ride into the conversation on Brady's shoulders, is a really embarrassing contest that Manning loses decisively before it even really starts.

Pretty accurate assessment.

'09- No WW was a death blow
'10- Meh. They should have beaten the NYJ. Brady was a little too squeamish in the pocket.
'11- Complete pass. WW drop. Gronk hobbled. D couldn't get off the field
'12- WW drop. Talib hurt. Gronk out.
'13- Team was decimated. No Gronk.

May seem like excuses but I'd like to see SF win in 1988 w/o Rice.

Football is a team game. QB's need help. D, receivers and running game....

you cant have bad playoff games make make it to the AFCCG 3 years in a row, one of which resulted in a Superbowl appearance. stop being silly.

Any one of those losses can't really be attributed directly to him. If tomorrow, we lose because he turned in a terrible performance or showed his age, then that's a legitimate argument. But if we lose because of a critical fumble, or ST breakdown, then you can't really hold it against him.

All that being said, he definitely has at least one more season. The OL should be a hell of a lot more consistent next season (with one or two more quality additions). I'm still amazed we got to 12-4 with all that shuffling.
