I think you are referring to Week 17 in the 2009 season. We are talking about the 2010 Season. Welker played in Divisional Playoff but did not start b/c he made foot jokes. Dumb.

There may be a slight difference in the quality of capability of the 2014 D and the 2010 D.

How that 2010 defense limited teams to 15ppg in that stretch is beyond me.

The differential in talent between the two teams on that side of the ball is staggering.

Biggest issue with the 2010 team is a ton of our key contributors were rookies. McCourty, Gronk, Hernandez and Spikes were all starters and we had considerable playing time for Cunningham, Love and Deaderick. The playoff lights were too bright for our rookies. This team is more balanced in terms of experience and veteran leadership.

That said, come playoff time I hope we don't have to play against any division rivals or the Ravens.

Please don't bring up that 2010 team. One of my favorite teams. I thought for sure out of all Patriots teams of the last 15 years, that team was going to win the superbowl. I felt the 2010 team had some kind of magic, they were destined. So dominant against top caliber teams. That playoff loss to the jets still stings to this day.

The 2010 team went 8-0 the second half of the season, and faced:

@ 6-2 and eventual SB runner up Pittsburgh (39-26)
vs. 6-3 Indy and Peyton Manning (31-28)
@ 2-8 Detroit on a short week for Thanksgiving (45-24)
vs. 9-2 Jets (45-3)
@ 9-3 Chicago (36-7); the Pats became the first team to have 5 consecutive games with 30+ points and 0 turnovers
vs. 8-5 and eventual SB champion GB (31-27)
@ 4-10 Buffalo (34-3)
vs. 7-8 Miami (38-7)

The Pats scored 30+ points in all 8 games, and won by an average of 37-15. Brady set a record for passes without an INT en route to his second MVP. Indy, the Jets, Pittsburgh, GB and Chicago all made the playoffs, and GB and the Steelers ended up in the SB.

That was a pretty impressive run against a very tough schedule. I think this team is more complete and balanced, but we shouldn't forget how impressive some of our team's past accomplishments were.

That was pure magic — all the angst after the loss to Cleveland, that schedule ahead of them, so many young players. And they were just amazing. Such a shame the way it ended.

2014 4th down: 5/17 = 29% (6th)

2010 3rd down: 99/210 = 47% (32nd(!))
2010 4th down: 12/20 = 60% (24th)

I'm not sure what's more interesting about that stat...the fact that my uneducated guess was right in the 2010 team's inability to get off the field...or that only a 6% difference to today, but the change in rules making it easier on the offense indicates that small change makes perfect sense.

As a non season ticket holder i dont gey a chance to go to many playoff games. That was my first.
I wont call that a jinx yet, but if i get to another and they lose again i promise to never go again...

I am a little uncomfortable with all of the positivity though.. They have a history of playing their best when everyone says they have no chance.
