The same thing that's been happening there and at all other CB positions (aside from CB1) all season: they're rotated in and out based on match-ups. This is a very good problem to have.

This board cracks me up sometimes.

All day long people complain about depth calling anything short of 3 probowl backups negligent drafting and roster management.
We end up with a wealth of talent and what may be the most important position grouping on the team and people are complaining about that now.

Patriot fans, after 14 years of watching a team that is driven by game planning for each opponent, think that every position has a pecking order, and how much a player plays in an individual game means 'he must have done something' or ' he is out of the picture' or all of a sudden a guy used more in one game passed others at his position permanently.

The Patriots philosophy revolves around creating a specific game plan to attack an opponent. When you have a number of good players at a position group with varying strengths and weaknesses, their use and usefullness, will vary from game to game.

Finally, can we once and for all understand that the last guy at a position group who is active but likely won't see the field at his position without an injury or blowout, didn't 'beat out' the guy who was inactive as a corner, but is active because he is a better fit on special teams.

I get your point, but I believe the issue most posters have with Arrington is his cap number. He's clearly not worth the contract he has, and many posters have stated that opinion from the day that deal was signed. According to Miguel, there would be a net $1.25M cap hit if he's cut next year ($3.25M unamortized bonus, less $2M 2015 salary). There's a mismatch between his performance and his compensation. If he was making half as much, I think he'd be considered a valuable backup.

It is what it is. If we have an injury, or a matchup that he is needed for, it will be good to have him.
A 2mill salary is not an egregious miss.

Dennard was a scratch and was replaced by Butler. I know Dennard hasn't been that great, but is he really at the point where he's lower than Butler or was it for a different reason?

I believe someone posted that Reiss thinks that Dennard and Arrington getting sat out in the past couple of weeks was about them getting rested up for this Broncos game.

If Patriots cornerback Kyle Arrington matches up against Wes Welker today, and Alfonzo Dennard is also on the field for most snaps (possibly against Emmanuel Sanders), it will confirm my suspicion that Bill Belichick scaled back their playing time the last two weeks with the intention of having them at their best (and not giving Denver recent film of them to analyze) for this highly anticipated matchup. Arrington has played 10 defensive snaps over the last two games and Dennard was a healthy scratch last week. Belichick has his players on the one-game-at-a-time mindset, but I’ve been wondering if he was taking more of a long-range view the last couple games with Arrington and Dennard.
