With our record for late round picks in the last draft, the sixth rounders just means we're cutting someone next year rather than Mallett this year. But in the meantime we'll spend the year convinced we can find the next Dennard. It's nice for us draftniks, our mocks get a little longer

Wording is a little odd there, Pats get a 6th round pick? If they actually turned down 1-2 round offers earlier this offseason, then this deal looks awful in comparison, but more because those offers were crazy. This is more in line with his actual worth as a guy in the last year of his rookie deal who hasn't played a meaningful NFL snap.

Return aside, I'm just glad the situation is resolved for now and I'm mildly intrigued to see how Mallett will in Houston. This isn't ideal for the Texans; with Mallett hitting FA this offseason, I'm sure they would prefer to have him start all 16 games to have a better idea of what they have before committing to him long term. Can't imagine he'll be ready that soon though, will probably have to sit at least a few weeks to get up to speed on the playbook and receivers.

Ridiculous trade. Why even bother ? I rather keep him for a year as insurance and get nothing next year. Dumb, worthless trade. So we basically traded Mallett for Aiken (or whatever long snapper, Mallett was basically traded to open up a roster spot) and a 6th round pick.
