OK, this is what Breer actually said according to the article:
“One of the things that he’d (meaning Belichick) like to prove he can do is win a Super Bowl without having the benefit of having one of the best quarterbacks of all-time.”
Then, the author goes on to say that "assuming" this came from BB or someone close to him, we could conclude yada yada yada.
It's speculation. Breer might have had some sort of inside information, or, then again, maybe he didn't and is just trying to stir the pot to keep himself in the speculation game before Training Camp begins.
The bottom line is that none of us have any way of evaluating this "information" other than through the prism of our own preconceptions.
Option 1: Do we believe that BB really wants to win an SB without TB? Then we see it one way (but before you argue that position with certainty please point to a direct, attributable quote from Belichick from a reliable source to that effect).
Option 2: Do we believe that BB is quite pleased with his achievements to date and is confident that his place in NFL history is secure, whether or not he wins an SB without TB? Then we see it another way (but, once again, there is no direct quote, etc., that would enable us to draw that conclusion).
Personally, I lean towards Option 2 since it is more consistent with my own personal take on BB after observing him since his days with Bill Parcells, but if you lean towards Option 1, knock yourself out, I really can't dispute your perspective...any more than you can dispute mine...based on any available facts that do not require our own interpretation of the inner workings of a man whom most of us have never met and with whom virtually none of us have ever had a serious conversation even if we've met him
