Main thing in that article is that not everyone is eligible. The basic gist is that if you can get DirecTV, then you're not able to get this deal. We'll see how this shakes out. Would be great if it was not restricted to just some and it became available on AppleTV. Also, AirPlay is a big deal, if it's supported.
Playstation had it one year as an online subscription without DirecTV. I remember there was a package deal with that and the latest version of Madden. They didn't have it the next year though.
There have been many rumors that it could be online as a stand alone product soon in one way or another. One rumor has it with AT&T potentially buying DirecTV that AT&T wireless subscribers will be able to get it for their devices as a stand alone product. Another rumor has the NFL selling the online rights as a separate package in the new contract.
Apparently this isn't new. That anyone who can prove they can't get DirecTV (apartment dwellers or people with a lot of trees blocking LoS) has been able to get the online Sunday Ticket package.

Yeah - fill out the form with your address and you'll get a "Sorry, you're ineligible" response. I just did it, and it appears that's indeed the case. Although if you have any kids in college that there's a box you can check with that designation, so that may be a workaround since they offer it due to the fact those students obviously can't have a dish. Then, it's a way to potentially do it by using their login.

There's a select few colleges on the list. OSU, Bama, MICH, Harvard, Texas are for instance. Not many more than that. Like I said, the real thing here is that it's available on more devices now. And AppleTV is not one of them, sadly.
