Post OTAs roster projections

Hard to know how many quarterbacks the Pats are going to carry until the last preseason game. If Garoppolo looks like he's getting it, they should carry two to make it easier on other positions. If not, they rightfully need to carry three. Mallett is not going to lead us to the promised land if the unthinkable occurs again, but at least Garoppolo's confidence won't be shot as a rookie if he comes in and has a rough season (which most rookie quarterbacks tend to do).

So... Every report has Amendola doing great this camp and having great chemistry with Brady... Yet he does not start?
Because Edelman is a better player and has better chemistry with Brady, combined with him coming off a season in which he was one of just 5 receivers in the NFL with 100+ catches and 1000+ yards. The other WR position is the X WR and neither Edelman nor Amendola should play that spot.

I would take Bolden over Finch. They will carry 4RB AND Devlin most likely since they are thin at TE.
Finch makes little sense to have on the roster if you have a healthy Vereen. His only role could be as a 3rd down RB, and given Vereen probably the most talented offensive weapon not named Gronkowski it would not make sense to limit his playing time. Finch is a nice practice squad player.

Unless Houston shows something in camp Brandon Bolden needs to be on this roster, if Ridley went down, he is the only one that could fill the role of every down runner. Vereen, White, and Finch are not big enough.

It's Brady6. He hates Amendola. Start with that as your baseline.

He was literally the only WR on the team with prior experience playing with Brady for 3/4's of the season. His only competition for balls were three injured rookies and a slot receiver that outperformed everyone else until he tore his groin in Week 1. I like Edelman, but I think Amendola is the more talented receiver when he's healthy. Further, you should remember that Brady is the same guy that made Reche Caldwell look like a solid WR.

That is good to know; unfortunately, their performance on the field suggests Edelman is the clear-cut better player.

When both healthy DA is a better player. JE had a great year and I am a big fan of his. DA was injured (again)..... But even "always injured" as you say DA is, he still put up better numbers over his career.

Going forward, we will see, but something tells me that BB payed all that money to DA because he was a pretty darn good player. If JE was better he would have gotten at least a similar contract.

Would you really start Amendola over Edelman?

I wasn't evaluating your selections, as I've yet to look at them. I was letting a poster know about your admitted hatred for Amendola. That's something that should probably be mentioned in a disclaimer when you're doing rosters and depth charts, don't you agree?

What do you base that on?

LOL B6 should have an asterick * noted Amendola hater

I want to see how the WRs are used. Edelman is pretty much set as a starter, Amendola will get a chance on the outside after a tough season last year, but he'll be competing with LaFell/Dobson for balls. It will be interesting to see how the WRs line-up in 2 or 3 WR sets

The contract is meaningless unless it is in the same year. This draft had the deepest WR class in over a decade, and the UFA market had superior talent in it. Have you read the OTA reports, sure they say positive things about Amendola but they also highlight that Edelman has been the most effective WR throughout the sessions.

How exactly is Amendola the better player? What does he do that makes him better?

I do tend to agree that, when both are healthy, Amendola is the better receiver (nothing against Edelman).

I think it would be a gross misuse of Amendola's skills to line him up at either flanker or split-end. He's the type of receiver, when healthy, that causes match-up nightmares in the slot. He can also take a nickel corner deep with a double move.

You mean aside from their careers?
So are you are confusing opportunity with being the better player?

If Amendola were on a team that had Wes Welker on it, he would not have had an opportunity either. The reality is that 2013 was Edelman’s first season with a legit opportunity to play consistently and he was outstanding, Amendola has been his teams #1 or #2 target every year since 2010 and never went over 689 yards.
