Report: Patriots Want To Trade Up In First Round, Draft Wide Receiver

My point was simply that you cannot just say that Jones had 6.5 sacks and call him a great player, i think he could contribute but players like Justin Francis have also been cut despite what we as fans thought of as promising seasons. Maybe he will be able to be a good rotational piece for the team, we will just have to wait and see.

Could you please show me where ANYONE called him a great player? You can't. So don't even try. Your entire stance has been blown up each time you've responded.

Comparing Jones to Francis is idiotic. Francis wasn't half the player that Jones was and your attempt to cloud the issue of you making statements that just aren't supported by fact just goes to show how much you don't really know. At this point, you are pulling things out of your arse and hoping that no one will call you on it.

Point being Edes was open deep, well beyond any defender.
TFB had time to throw and missed him by a mile, not inches.

Instead of speedy long ball threats this QB is better serviced by a complementary TE to Gronk (assuming Gronk healthy) and a talented outside receiver.

All this receiver stuff is moot if the Pats do not shore up their up the middle QB protection which gets regularly exposed by elite championship game Ds.

I completely agree about brady not being the best deep, vertical route passer....requires a touch and the ability to accurately put air under the ball that just isnt his strength....but he is great at the horizontal and diagonal routes where he can zip it in there on a frozen rope, so i would also love a good TE or a reliable outside WR who can snag the ball even when covered.

I might have too much faith in the patriots being able to make chicken salad out of chicken **** when it comes to the OL. You think both Wendell and Connolly need to be upgraded?

WHAT? Signing bonuses are paid all at once. Just because they are amortized over the life of the contract (up to five years) doesn't mean they didn't shell out the cash all at once. Yours is the silly argument.

Acting like cash outlay isn't a devoting a significant amount of resources in one year when it's something the league tracks proves that you just aren't paying attention to the league changes..

I don't care about how much is coming out of Kraft's pocket. I care about the salary cap. That's the only interest a fan should take in resources. my god, is this your first time on this board?

Everyone misses. Peyton Manning missed a wide open Thomas in the same game. The difference is that one guy has an all-world WR to throw to and the other doesn't.

If that is all you care about, then you aren't paying attention to the CBA and should stop ranting about only half the issue. OH. and what you care about has no bearing on the reality of things. Which is that they have spend over $21 million since the start of free agency last year. Sorry if facts get in the way of your fantasy.

Under your theory, the Patriots will have spent next to nothing in resources next year, because the signing bonuses for Amendola, LaFell and Edelman will have all been paid in prior years.

That would be a crazy position for me to take. The only smart position would be to look at the average SB over the length of the contract.

This is incredibly basic stuff.

I think all I said was that

What facts have you shown that say that Jones is a quality player? he had 6.5 sacks and thats good, but Pro football focus graded him as the worst run defender in the NFL which means he is not a guy that I want on the field during likely running plays and so I view him as a rotational guy. Jones is a 6th rounder who the pats claimed off waivers so that's pretty good considering.

Evans and Gronk lined up on the same field? Hell yeah but doubt it can happen.

I think BB would have to love this WR to trade up. Only once in BB's era have we drafted an offensive player who is not an O-Lineman in Maroney. BB loves to go defense or O-Lineman in the 1st.

My feeling is still that the Pats trade back at #29, especially if there's still a QB on the board that another team wants

The reason being that 1st round choices have an optional 5th year - whereas any team that takes a QB later only has them for four

That makes #29 a high value pick for Belichick to trade -

By that same logic, Belichick could find pretty good value for #29 in his efforts to trade up in this draft to a point where players are all pretty much the same crap shoot. The team taking #29 knows they, like the Patriots, would be holding a high value pick for a QB hungry team if guys slide

It really comes down to "who does Belichick really want" on the team. If there's a guy he views as a difference maker, he'll trade up - we've seen it in the past and we'll see it again (and when he does it's often a very good move)

No. That isn't the ONLY smart position. In fact, it's a pretty friggin ignorant one as was already established. And who says they will have spent next to nothing in resources next year? Besides, they only need to spend more resources if there is a need. Right now, only the ignorant who refuse to look at what they've already spent in the last year think there is a need at WR.

The bigger need is at TE, though that is behind OC and DT in my honest opinion. The problem is a lack of quality depth at TE and DT in this year's draft.

BTW, if it was incredibly basic stuff, how is it that you fail to grasp it?

Pro Football Focus???? That garbage website?? No wonder you can't hold a meaningful conversation.

Also, you are the same person that claimed you don't expect anything from "rotational" guys. So you'll forgive me if I give your opinion the credibility it deserves. Which is none.

OH. One last thing. I quoted you EXACTLY. So for you to try and claim that you didn't say people were calling Jones a great player (which they weren't) is just more proof of your lack of ability to carry a reasonable conversation that you lost as soon as you open your mouth.

What have I shown that makes Jones a better player than you claim he is? Gee. The 6.5 Sacks and 13 QB hurries without the benefit of a Pro-Bowl NT next to him isn't enough? My stance has always been that he should excel as a situational pass rusher and possible sub for Kelly at times. Nothing more. Unfortunately for you, you've made all sorts of wild arse claims that have been downright wrong. And you just can't accept it.

Report: Patriots Want To Trade Down In First Round, Draft Players

Well, this is clearly one of the times that Reiss made a mistake because I posted 3 different articles that show that Dobson's surgery was in March, not February.

Yeah, they waited as long as they possibly could to see if it would heal on its own, in an attempt to avoid surgery. Unfortunately, it wasn't healing sufficiently, so they had to choose the route of surgery. Like you said, this happened fairly close to the start of free agency in March, as I remember talking about it in other threads.

If it had happened in early February as Reiss suggests, they'd have made the choice for surgery pretty much immediately after our season ended, and that's not what happened. They were pretty patient with it to see if it healed on its own first.

trade back a little and get Robinson

If we both agree that he is a rotational guy (i.e situational pass rusher) then what are you arguing with me about?

So, not only do you use a garbage website that has people with no actual experience in football or diagnosing football, you can't even follow the conversation?

The issue I have is that you have made numerous BS claims with no actual support for those claims. You have continuously tried to spin your stance so you look somewhat informed despite the everything that has proven you to not be.

You made claims that Jones shouldn't be relied upon to contribute because he's not an every down player, but a rotational player. You've attempted to back-track from things you've said to the point you claimed you didn't say them, only to have your own posts show that you did.

My point is that you can't be bothered by facts. You just have your unsupported bias and facts be damned. So that makes your posts next to worthless. The difference between you and me is that I can see how Jones was successful last season as a full-time player who didn't have a lot of help and can see him being a starter in the future whereas you'd just as soon ditch him and couldn't care less if he made the team because you act like he brings nothing to the table.

This solidifies it the Patriots are going defense in the first round and are targeting a defensive lineman.

We have a winner!
I'd "like' your post again, but I already had when you first wrote it.
Do tell...what will they do today?
