Goodell: NFL is thinking about making the draft a 4-day event

Except, how was the NFL supposed to know 9 months ago that that production would eventually be scrapped?

Besides, this had nothing to do with that and everything about moving the offseason's biggest TV event into the May "sweeps" period. If they get good ratings, expect it to continue.

The NFL knew 9 months ago the NFL Draft is by far a bigger event than the Rockettes and could have made alternate plans.

I believe it will get the ratings regardless if it was May "sweeps" or July "doldrums". As a fan I reserve the right not to like it and maintain an attitude of feeling disrespected and overlooked and not approve of the job the commissioner has done. But I'll still tune in because of my interest in the team.

In the end I realize the owners are culpable as well, but the reputation of this commish is a legacy only he can truly be responsible for and I, and many fans like me, think he sucks. I think the paying customers of this enterprise have a right to complain, wether it changes anything or not. I also reserve the right to disregard his defenders opinions and agree with the majority.

4 days of this meglomaniac is torture, not entertainment.

My favorite part of the draft, which I do not watch, is reading Patsfans where draftniks have absolute meltdowns when a publicized binkie falls to the Pats and then BB goes and drafts some unknown from Rutgers instead. Comedy gold!

Guilty as charged!

I don't watch much of it myself, you can usually time it when our picks come up and casually peruse NFL to see if there's been trades.

I like to watch rounds 1-2 or 3 ... not so much after that ... 3 days is overkill ... 4 days is glutinous.

Then again we have members here who still try to predict the 53 ...

the 53 is just a number to make the league happy ... that's about it Bill has a 55/56 or so.

Roger Goodell either doesn't understand what "water down" means, or he's a lying asshat (admittedly, the possibility exists that it's both):

TAMPA, Fla. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday that a proposal to expand the playoffs by two teams would not water down the postseason.

"We're very cautious on that," said Goodell, who was the featured guest at a fundraising breakfast for Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High School, which was founded by soon-to-be Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks and former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo. "You want to make sure that you don't do that. We have 12 teams out of 32 that make our playoffs now. This would only take us up to 14.

All I do now is watch the first 3 picks to see what the average amount of time is used to pick draftee. Then I do a quick estimate of time it'll take to get to 2 picks before Pats pick/picks in the round and make sure I'm back in house to see it. I really do that same thing with each round and day. Works for me usually, unless a trade screws me unexpectedly. Must admit I'm a homer at draft time and don't give a rat's behind what other teams do!
I then come here to see what everyone thinks of the Pat's picks which I find both extremely informative and at some times very entertaining when some differences of opinion happen to pop up.

It's not watering down the postseason that I'm concerned about as much as two extra playoff teams watering down the regular season. That said, my understanding is that adding two playoff qualifiers also means removing one playoff bye from each conference. That really sucks.

All ball busting aside, it is impressive how much knowledge and insight the draftniks have here.

Why would they make alternate plans when they got the weekend that they wanted?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's why it got moved.

I bethcha Bob Kraft supports this change and the expanded playoffs and the 18-game schedule and moving games to London 100%. Does he suck as well?

On some stuff. I completely disagree with him about a franchise in London. Hope that never happens. I don't know if he's made a statement on the expanding playoffs or 18-game schedule.

Well I don't think he has made any statements on the matter but I think just about every single owner would love to implement it.

He does PLENTY without the owners' "permission." They don't collectively micromanage him. Do you think they vote on every little initiative he hatches?

On things like london, draft dates, competition rules, cba stuff. 18 games, additional playoff teams. Yes they sure do vote every time. Anything big he does not have authority to agree to do it.

Well if he agrees with the other two points, I'll think he sucks on those, too.

Rumor has it that Goodell is floating the possibility of hosting his own NFL-themed comedy/variety talk show on BBC-TV, "Goody's Grid Goofy Gala." The show will feature celebrity guests plus former NFL players trying their hand at stand-up comedy and improv sketches.
At least there won't be friggin' advert breaks every time the Patriots pick rolls around.

Is sitting around waiting for names to be called "must watch tv" now? Dont know about anyone else but I just check the internet after the day is over, it's really not that interesting.

They switched to accomodate Radio City Music Hall and the Rockettes, not the other way around. It was not "the weekend that they wanted". http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9301153/roger-goodell-confirms-nfl-draft-moving-2014

I did state I'm a fan and will watch. I can also ***** about it. I have the luxury of doing both. Fan input does have an effect, wether you believe it or not.

I haven't said a word about expanded playoffs, 18 games or London in any post on this site. The subject is making the draft a 4 day-event and the draft being held in May, which hasn't happened since I believe 1979' and is a relevent sidebar, as is Goodell being an egocentric narcissist.

Not really sure if your a Goodell apologist or just someone who likes to straddle the fence to be antagonistic. Either way I think my point about Roger is clear. I don't like him. Trying to lump Kraft in with him as bait still doesn't expose your opinions on those matters, so that is clever. Where do you stand on these subjects? Or do you have no opinion other than to question other posters stances on these proposals?

I think Goodell should make the draft a week-long event in London. It can be staged under a big outdoor tent in Picadilly Circus. He can bring along the Rockettes to perform, and perhaps the Rolling Stones can be hired to play tunes live between selections. British fans of the NFL will show up in their favorite team's jerseys and pay $250 per night to witness the full dog-and-pony show which will be broadcast live worldwide.

Meh. You need to think social media. Let people who post videos of cats on facebook all day make all the selections for a each team in turn. Each team will get a certain number of "likes" to decide whether they want to go along with the pick. Goodell will have an hour show befor hand where he explains to the social media world what a football is and why it's shaped so funny (so he can shove it up his freaking a**).
