Goodell: NFL is thinking about making the draft a 4-day event

Depends on how it's broken up I suppose. If it's:

Day 1: 1st round
Day 2: 2nd/3rd
Day 3: 4th/5th
Day 4: 6th/7th

Then I could care less. I don't often watch the last rounds anyway, as the coverage is often just recapping the earlier rounds with a ticker indicating the picks (they don't even go live to the announcement at that point). If they're doing something silly like giving the first three rounds each their own day, with the 4th-7th still all on one day, I think it does nothing but kill momentum during the interesting rounds.

I think Goodell should make the draft a week-long event in London. It can be staged under a big outdoor tent in Picadilly Circus. He can bring along the Rockettes to perform, and perhaps the Rolling Stones can be hired to play tunes live between selections. British fans of the NFL will show up in their favorite team's jerseys and pay $250 per night to witness the full dog-and-pony show which will be broadcast live worldwide.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 3 month event, where each team could pick one player a day from May 1st-June 1st, then 2 teams a day for June into July 3rd, and then 4 teams a day from July 3rd unit mid August. It should be televised around the clock on ESPN because then no one would notice the difference because the only thing slower is their baseball coverage.

Quit *****ing and don't watch it. I'll watch the first day, catch the rest on ESPN.You can waste your time watching this "event" over four days...it's a free country. If people watch it on multiple days they will show it on multiple days.but how do we KNOW this to be a FACT? It hasn't been done yet If people watch 18 games a year they will play 18 games a year.Fans will watch 36 games a year if they can.Straw-man If they move it to May and get bigger ratings they will move it to May.it's BEEN moved to May without ANY regard for the fans. Time will tell if the NFL gets bigger ratings If people watch games on Thursdays and Saturdays, they will play it on Thursdays and Saturdays.Did you even look at the ratings decline on Thursday night games as the season progressed? The league SHOULD have a captive audience with stellar ratings for a SINGLE game. They don't. I don't even know what you mean by "Saturdays" . If this is something YOU want, good luck fighting college football Do you start to see a pattern here?

Hate Goodell all you want, but he doesn't do anything without the owner's permission, sure he does...just LOOK at all the "gates" he's spawned and so far, every single damn thing he has done has reaped those owners huge rewards.the Patriots reaped a "HUGE REWARD!!!" by losing millions in cash and a first round pick? For what was essentially a unilateral decision by Fuhrerdell? If you want to get rid of him, stop watching football.

We can't get rid of him. We can hate him all we want if that's alright with you...and even if it's NOT alright with you.

They'll probably keep pushing the envelope to see how far they can go then, in the first year that shows a total revenue loss across the board, will start to pull back some of these new ideas. The draft was fine how it was. They then screwed the pooch by moving it back a month and now, on top of that, they're trying to make it a four day "extravaganza"? Come on.

I fail to see how they've "screwed the pooch" with a move to May. It may not be some people's preference, but I know I for one don't give a crap, and I have yet to meet one person who would have watched the draft in April but won't in May.

I think 4 days is a bit too much, who wants to watch rd 6 and 7 where other than the odd player these are not impact or even roster players

3 days was too much.
4 days is just twisting the knife.

He does PLENTY without the owners' "permission." They don't collectively micromanage him. Do you think they vote on every little initiative he hatches?

I'm surprised he isn't pushing for a pick a day every day of the offseason. Each pick right down to Mr. Irrelevant can get a one hour special on NFLNetwork.

I am out of words, actually. I don't think I've ever seen a sport that almost explicity says "F*** YOU" to a fan base the way the NFL does. There isn't one single change since Goodel took over that improved the game for us.

But the money is a big popo ball, still rolling downhill, getting bigger and bigger as it goes.

I'm actually a HUGE fan of Putin, how can you not like someone who fishes with a rifle and wrestles bears?
But he only does those things because of his Napoleonic Complex. He's under 5-foot-7; some reports say he's 5-5.

As it relates to the teams and their traditional offseason programs, they've screwed the pooch. It's been mentioned elsewhere in the thread as well. Rookies now have one less month to get integrated with their new teams. As for the viewing aspect of it, I'll probably do what I always do which is watch the first round then just follow the remaining rounds (either on Sirius or online). As for the viewing aspect of it, I would imagine that the only thing that would lose them viewership would be both the NBA and NHL playoffs getting deeper in than they would have been in April.

Dude knows jiu jitsu though so you might not want to say that to his face. I have a feeling people might let him win, though.

Roger's missing a GREAT opportunity for more $$$$$ here!

He should go to 7 days, a full week I say, one for each round beginning on Monday, and to maximize the excitement, he should make the teams DRAFT IN REVERSE!

Can you imagine? That Sunday night climax will outdo the Superbowl viewership! It'll be like Miss America (especially if the Donald buys the Bills, right?) when they get down to the last (first) pick! Oh, the excitement! Will it be Clowney or Denico Autrey????????????

And by "one less month" you mean "two less weeks", because last year the draft was on April 25th. This year May 8th. The amount of outrage in this thread is completely disproportionate to the actual impact of any changes made.

Given that the same level of "outrage" is being displayed on multiple other forums, by fans of multiple other teams, it would seem that your positioning this as "in this thread" is underselling the situation by quite a bit.

If that's the case, then in my opinion the outrage EVERYWHERE is disproportionate to the actual impact of the changes. If it truly is this big travesty, then people will stop watching and the NFL will have made a mistake. But otherwise I just can't get that upset about such a minor issue. If I'm the only one then so be it.

The proportions of MY outrage have yet to reach maturity....
