no thanks.

a.) he was here only 5 years

b.) we didnt draft him

c.) he went to play with our arch rival.

No reason for him to retire here, hes a journeyman.

I guess when Tom Brady retires he'll end up being hated in here too.

What a bunch of unappreciative fans. Most in here don't deserve to ever see another SB. Welker broke his back for this team. Dude was one of the best Patriot players of all time.

I wasn't a the biggest Welker fan, all things considered, even when he was here. Always thought he got a bit of a free pass for some of the dumb things he said and for some of his more egregious drops. I still really liked the guy, but I wasn't the uber fan that a lot of folks were.

So, basically, I don't really care where he retires, when, or why. I'll always appreciate what he did for the Pats from 2007-2012, but there's at least a dozen other Patriots who I care more about from 2001-now. The way that Seymour and Wilfork stand to end their careers (looks like Seymour's has already ended, too) matters a lot more to me than Welker does.

No, Welker broke the hearts of every fan when his hands failed him at crucial times. Then he broke Talibs hip.

Fixed

When a guy leaves to go play for a hated rival and drops a crucial SB pass, he isn't going to be accepted with open arms from everybody.

AA12. I hear you man but honestly Welker didn't like the Patriot Way. In my opinion, he lost the honor of retiring a Patriot just by his broncos dance. The next WR to retire a patriot I hope is Edelman cause that dude represents it far better in his short time than welker ever did in his whole career.

I think part of the reason he signed to Denver for basically what we offered was because his pride took a hit when he realized Belichick was more right than he was about his value, so he wasn't going to come back to the table a defeated man with his pride swallowed and sign for about what NE offered him to begin with.

So he gave us the finger and went to Denver and caught balls from the enemy.

We had good years together and now there's this.
How do you feel?

Welker and Edelman aren't that much different in how they approached free agency.

Welker:
Wasn't happy with Patriots offer
Went looking for others
Found an offer in Denver
Asked Patriots to match it -- an offer that the Patriots themselves say was less than what the Patriots offered
Patriots say they've moved on

Edelman: (two seasons in a row)
Wasn't happy with Patriots offer
Went looking for others
Found none to his liking
Asked Patriots if their offer was still on table
It was, and signed it

Why exactly is Welker crucified because the Patriots choose to pull their offer and sign Amendola instead? Whereas Edelman is not thought of in any negative manner for acting the same way?

I think Bill for some reason hates Welker; I just don't know why as Welker basically played hard, didn't do anything wrong (other than make a comment that he thought was funny once), and never complained

Sorry AA12, I meant Texxx. Read the quote as the message. My apologies

They act the same way cause the FO allows them to go check their market value. That whole post seems irrelevant when you look at how it really is. The last part of your opinion I can understand.

Lie.

Anyone here would let Tom Brady crash on their sofa if he needed it, next year or thirty years from now. The man is loved and always will be

for six seasons he was the best slot WR in the NFL and was Brady's go to guy from day one but he was never the star on the team the one guy you have to stop to beat the pats that was moss and now Gronk, but I have no hard feeling for Welker I wish he was here but his not and he is not a HOF player so I don't really care if he retires a pat

This doesn't make sense. Did Tom Brady join forces with our biggest conference rival? Did Tom Brady betray us for the Jets? Did he end our chances of going to another Super Bowl? No, so why would he be hated if he retires...?

Would you like to purchase my Welker jersey?

Comparing Brady to Welker is absurd anyway, not even in terms of skill, but in terms of their immortality as a New England Patriot.

Tom Brady is the greatest Patriot ever, and in the mind of many, the greatest quarterback ever, drafted by us, and winning us three Superbowls.

Welker... not so much.

I actually really want to know if he wants to buy it. I don't know anyone else who wants it, even for oil changes...

I voted yes but I really don't care.

Same. Welker was great for us, class guy, great teammate by all accounts.

He seemed pretty hurt in his initial press conference introducing him as a Bronco, like he didn't really want to be there.

Holding a grudge against a guy that got played by his agent is silly, where is he supposed to go, Jacksonville?

The guy still wants to win a title, Denver was his best chance on paper.

I don't hold a grudge. If he wanted to sign a contract here to retire, I'd welcome it.

All of that said, I don't really care. Point is, it's stupid to hold a grudge, he tried to earn a little more money, his agent screwed him misreading the market, we moved on before he had a chance to come back.

welp...I'm half Irish so I loves me some corned beef and...

Big Welker fan, I thought he gave it everything he had for this team and he is going to pay for it down the road. I don't care if he retires a Patriot I just want him to retire because I think every head shot he takes from here on out is going to do irreparable long term damage and that sucks. He didn't look like the same player to me down the stretch this season and I think that while Manning is a great fit for his chance to get a ring and production I think he is a terrible fit in that the way he throws the ball sets Welker up for the most brutal hits imaginable. Brady had it figured out and went down and away to where only Welker could get it when hitting short underneath patterns, whereas Manning just lobs it out there and exposed to the worst possible hits.

Love Welker but he should call it quits and have a good life after football.
