Highlights as reported by various writers:

  • He's here in part because he wants a great, accurate QB.
  • He's here in part because he wants more balls thrown his way. (Yikes!)
  • Ridley is his buddy, and told him that being a Patriot is about sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice, specifically with reference to the long hours worked in the film room and so on,.

Just read the transcript on Patriots.com, he said a "chance" of getting the ball more which is fair enough, the Panthers are set up as a running team where as the Patriots are known for passing the ball.

That is a horrible pitch by Ridley....which means the fact that lafell still signed with us is extremely encouraging

Yeah, I feel like while it's a horrible sales pitch on the surface, it's the honest truth and what needs to be said.

If LaFell is fine with putting the team first and fun/stats/everything else second, he's gonna do alright up here.

I was really excited when I read the transcript earlier. He seems like he wants to do the right things and win badly.

Yikes is right!

Let's make a list of all the #3 WR's under Belichick that have gotten more than the 49 catches that LeFell had last year.

a null set.

I believe the list is complete. Stallworth had 46. I suppose one could call Hernandez a WR and say that his 51 were more, but surely at least a few of these catches were for the TE position. In any case, even the 51 is not exactly enough of any increase (2 catches) to switch teams, especially from a team with no wide receivers.

The way that LeFell get more catches is if he moves ahead of Dobson and Amendola in the depth chart. IMHO, it seems unlikely that with all four on the team that LeFell will get 50 catches. I'm ignoring the #5 and potential #6 receivers.

Good observation mgteich. He will get an opportunity to prove himself.
If he drops passes he should catch Brady will tune him out. If he is
a reliable WR, Brady will sent more his way.
He is a big target but he has to be on the same page as Brady to be
the target more than he was in NC.

At no point did he say in that interview he wants or is expecting more balls thrown to him. Did any of you actually read it?

The primary factors in weighing in my decision to come play ball up here was the chance of getting the ball more and winning really because it’s a winning organization and I just really wanted to win.

He has the chance to come into training camp and take the #1 Outside WR job. Anyone penciling Dobson in for it are kidding themselves.

Brandon Lloyd was targeted 130 times in 2012 and that was with Welker getting targeted 174 times and Gronk/Hernandez being targeted a combined 163 times.

So yes he is correct in saying he has a chance of getting the ball more than he did in Carolina.
