LeGarrette Blount

My 2cents is that Blount wants to stay. I don't believe he wants to go to a team just for more $$$.

So, I see him staying.
Your mouth to LeGarrette's ear.

Running backs seems to be signing now. Perhaps, Blount will sign in the next few days. It seems likely that Moreno and Jones-Drew will be signed first.

Doesn't the Revis signing kinda offset any comp pick for losing Talib??

No, Talib was a FA, but not dropped by the Pats. Revis was cut by the Bucs.

Comp picks apply to the Talib situation but not to the Revis situation.

The Browner deal may cancel the Talib comp pick though, but $ 12 million/annum deal is a lot different than $6.3 million/annum.

There hasn't been much action on the running backs. They will get their day in this year's free agent market. Part-timer Blount isn't high on the free agent lists.

Yeah, even the top deals are only bringing in about 3--3.5m per year, so I'd have to assume that Blount can be brought back for a very reasonable deal at about 1.5 or so.

I do give the pathetic Browns props for signing Ben Tate. He was "my" RB of choice for the free agent period. I figured someone who pay him starter money and they did. I think it was a nice move for them.

LaGarrette will need to play ball and realize he's in the best place he's ever been in during his career, and I expect the Pats will sweeten the pot the best they can.

Honestly, I think a guy in Blount's position would go for the money. There's a big difference in retirement lifestyle between a 1.5M deal and a 3M deal.

I doubt he wants to go work at Target when it's all over.

Superbowl rings are great but so is college for your kids.

Hope we get him though. He was awesome for us at times last season.
Don't know where the hell he was in the AFCCG but whatever

I'm guessing Blount had some high hopes for bigger bucks given the way his season went and the acclaim he received in a part time role, but ultimately he's a complementary player and isn't getting starter money, and at this point they aren't even giving big money to the starters. i think the 1.5 estimates are low for the market but close for the Patriots, a team may go 2.5 or 3, and i could see the Jets doing it and it making sense for them, because he is a tough tough RB, there is a chance the Patriots could get him back for 2/6 with 3 guaranteed imo, and i would love to se it because he brings a dimension that really helps good teams win. He's a closer and he wears defenses down, and if you are ahead and can chew the clock up with him it is a strong advantage for you. i hope they bring him back but think someone will pay him more and he will take it, unless Greg Schiano can somehow talk him into staying in NE.

Agree completely, if someone offers him significantly more he should grab it, but ultimately he may be better off as long term role player in NE than trying for quick money at the long term detriment to his career. And if i am Belichick that's what i am selling him on, the opportunity to become a guy with a really good role who could stay there for a good stint in it if he does his job. Blount already knows that Belichick has a great sense of how to use him and that could really appeal to him.

Blount will end up in Denver, so he can continue to sniff Talib's jock.

He could, but it would be a perfect example of what i meant when i said taking the money to the detriment of his career. Blount has to have the touches within a game to wear teams down and there is no way Manning turns the offense over to ground and pound and throws for 145. Blount would wither on the vine in Denver and get cut, whereas in NE Belichick would continue to pick and choose games and opportunities where Blount would thrive and have his big games and big moments. In short, he could become the Patriots OJ Anderson if he decided to take advantage of that opportunity, but he's never going to be the 300-400 carry RB in NE, or most likely anywhere else.

Then the Pats sign Knowshon Moreno instead. I can live with that.

Chris Mortensen just tweeted that Johnson is on the Pats' radar if/when he gets released AND he WANTS to be here.

Johnson?

Chris Johnson?
He strikes me as a guy more worried about his stats and every last penny.

Sorry, cupo. I've been made aware that it's a fake twitter account; therefore, the story is not true. Sincere apologies.
