The new pass defense with Revis and Browner

Carter and Chris Jones are significant weak links in that package AzPatsFan. Both need to be upgraded. If so, I share your sentiment.

Exactly. After living in "fear" for years that our pass defense would fail us in the clutch, as it has done so many times, we have suddenly arrived at a place where we can match up against ANYONE. Anyone. Anytime. Anywhere. The addition of Browner is almost as important as the addition of Revis, IMO (and the size of the contract he got reflects that view from the FO), because it gets us to that point. We have the flexibility to create mismatches, and to dictate to opposing offenses instead of being dictated to by them.

Mayo are you happy with the numbers? I think they overpaid slightly, but am ecstatic that he's on the team.

So thinking Happy thoughts about our secondary last night the following started making sense.

Play Browner & Revis as the CB's outside, move Dennard to the slot (or on the small fast guy that Browner wouldn't match up as well with.

How bout Arrington as a FS? He has had a nose for the ball and is a good hitter/tackler. He knows the system and IMO has the smarts to pick up the position pretty quickly. Even though he doesn't have the size he could work there.

Ryan and Harmon are the first off the bench for dime package.

So much talent so many options

Once Browner comes back, I know we will see a LOT of press coverage. Especially, on the #1 and #2 WR's. I love that style and cannot wait to see it return. Pats/Broncos will be a FUN game. The FLEXIBILITY of this secondary will be its greatest asset and most dangerous weapon.

Welcome to the 425 base defense era.

Grid and Mayo cant be more happy.

I'm getting convinced now that they're not going to move Browner to safety (would take away his best strength, press coverage). I wonder if they're still expecting something out of Adrian Wilson. His legs looked shot to me last year. They'll more likely just start Harmon.

I'm ecstatic that he's with the team. The gross numbers are higher than I expected, but I haven't seen the breakdown. It's also an indication of how serious the FO is about transforming the defense.

For years the best Defense against the Pats has been to keep#12 off of the field, grind it out for opposing offenses....

With this defense you can keep the opposing O off the field and give #12 more opportunities...

Also think BB will play a lot of games with his new toys... we are quicker & more skilled now than I can remember..

So perhaps the best offense is a very good defense...

Which is why defense wins championships. A great D can play offense and defense.

I would not be surprised to see Arrington get cut and Dennard moved inside to cover the slot when Browner comes off the suspension.

Really doubt Arrington becomes a FS. He is just not talented when it comes to tracking the ball or reading the QB which is why he is the nickel slot man these days.

It increased our cap hit by $2.67M to cut Arrington this season. Why do people persist in the idea that we would cut him? It's cheaper to keep him on the bench for depth.

I think trying out Arrington at S is a worthwhile idea. He's a good tackler and not afraid of contact. Maybe this would minimize his coverage deficiencies.

We need a run stuffing DT, a pass rushing 3-tech (even with Kelly on the team and even with Armstead. If Armstead contributes, we have that much more at the position), and a DE to add to the rotation and we're gravy. I would love Allen but, realistically, Phillips may be more of an option. I wouldn't mind signing him and then drafting one in May.

You play your best players together, and in order for that to happen (along with Dennard, McCourty, and Revis), then you play him at strong safety.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but McCourty won't see a snap at corner unless injuries ravage the secondary, or BB feels he sees a matchup advantage. McCourty is a much better safety (should have made the Pro Bowl last season). With all this Browner to safety talk, people are forgetting that Harmon showed a lot of good stuff on the field last season. He played really well with limited mistakes. With a whole off season of taking snaps with the starters in training camp, who knows what this kid can do . . .

Logan Ryan should figure to see a low of snaps as well, as that kid has shown he is incredibly instinctive. Dennard is very good, but gets hurt quite a bit. Man, there are just names across the board. This year's defense may end up being the most versatile in BB's tenure. That's damn scary.

Nothing has been worse in recent memory from our defense than a third and long play.

NO MORE!!

NO MORE automatic first downs for our opponents in 3rd and 15 or 3rd and 28 situations!

And Talib and Ware don't have their own question marks? Talib is constantly injured and he only played at an elite level for a six game stretch in his career. Ware has his own injury concerns. Ward is a great in the box safety type, but he is average in coverage.

You can argue that the Broncos moves are risks that could blow up in their face too. And I still think their offense could take a major step back with losing Decker, Manning and Welker being another year older and showing significant physical declines last year (Manning's arm strength and Welker looked slower), and they need to replace both guards.

Broncos fans seem to think that they didn't lose anything this free agency and all their additions are guaranteed success.

The only thing I agree with this poster is that the Pats need to upgrade their DT spot from last season, but I don't know if Wilfork is some one they have to have.

I expect Ware to be a bust for them, especially at the price they paid. I expect Talib to repeat his previous performances, which is to say play well for 6 or 7 games and miss the rest. Ward was their best pick up but he doesn't transform them like Revis and Browner transforms us.

Peyton Manning puts Welker in a lot of danger and I wouldn't be surprised if he eats another nasty concussion this year.

I know Jets fans say this about Brady every season with wishful thinking, but this might be the year Welker drops off a lot and Peyton drops off a lot.
I don't say this solely because of their age, but because of their age, history, and their 2014 schedule.

For the first time since Manning arrived in Denver, they don't have a cup cake schedule. They have to play some nasty D's that are going to beat the crap out of them, namely in the NFC West.

Given Peyton's history with putting his receivers in danger, and given their schedule, I think Welker is in for a few nasty hits that are going to take their toll. As far as Peyton goes, the hits aren't going to get any easier.

Ya, the donks certainly have a real schedule. I was looking at it and they are not guaranteed to win more than 10 games. I call the Hawks, Pats, and 9ers losses. They win against the rest of our division (3 wins). They win 5 of the 6 in division games (8 wins total) They beat the rams and bengals (10 wins total, 4 losses) That means they have to beat one of either the colts or the cardinals.
