Ok folks, with Revis and Browner in the fold, here's what I want to see next: Peppers or Allen. I want one more great pass rusher to pair opposite Chandler Jones. And then here's the lineup on passing downs:

The NASCAR pass rush package
DE Julius Peppers or Jared Allen
DT Chris Jones
DT Chandler Jones
DE Rob Ninkovich

Every one of these guys can get after the QB. Even Ninkovich.

The Cover Linebackers
LB Jerod Mayo
LB Jamie Collins

Both do a good job in coverage - Collins has the potential to be great. So you won't see many TEs shake free.

The Lockdown Secondary
CB Darrell Revis (I still can't believe I can say this)
CB Alfonzo Dennard
CB Logan Ryan
S Devin McCourty
S Brandon Browner

You've got Revis on the other team's #1. Welcome to Revis Island, where receivers disappear. Then Dennard on the other team's #2. As he improves, he will show himself to be a very tough cover guy, especially since the safety help will be rolled his way. Ryan against the other team's #3 WR (or RB like Sproles) is a good matchup for NE as well. Then McCourty plays centerfield and Browner can take the remaining WR or TE.

In other words, the Pats would suddenly have the ability to cover every single receiving option with superior coverage talent, AND have four very good pass rushers to get after the quarterback.

Holy crap this is exciting.

I think we'll be seeing a much more aggressive, pressure-oriented defense overall. Revis alone makes that possible.

And add Browner to the mix? Very pass rush orientated now

Get Phillips, he'll probably come cheap. 12 sacks in 19 games.

after a week of vastly improving the D, I like them to focus on the O a little bit. Alex Mack would be nice...

This make D. McCourty a key cog, imo. Remember in 2013 when they were going with 1 safety, 3 CB sets? I think they bring those back with Revis, Browner, Dennard with McCourty as lone safety. However, if he gets injured, they have no other safety as of now that can handle that type of assignment.

In the past, Bill dared other teams to run on them to avoid the pass (hello denver). Now he is going to be daring them to pass. Concern being that with a secondary this good, teams are going to focus on the run game which we need to improve against.

*The above are not complaints. I am ecstatic over the signings, but just pointing out my point of view.

Can you save...coverage sacks for Ninko and jones?

Anybody have a witty name for our D?

One more defensive piece - a pass rusher. Then spend the rest on the offense. WR, interior OL.

And then in the draft, add a stud TE, a DT, and a WR.

Ridley/Vereen, Edelman, Amendola/Dobson, Gronk, and Amaro make a really nice set of weapons for Brady. That's a 30+ ppg offense. More than enough.

Exactly. After living in "fear" for years that our pass defense would fail us in the clutch, as it has done so many times, we have suddenly arrived at a place where we can match up against ANYONE. Anyone. Anytime. Anywhere. The addition of Browner is almost as important as the addition of Revis, IMO (and the size of the contract he got reflects that view from the FO), because it gets us to that point. We have the flexibility to create mismatches, and to dictate to opposing offenses instead of being dictated to by them.

Add a guy like Aaron Donald (who I'd trade up into the top 15 for) as a disruptive interior force who can blow up plays and who has to be accounted for on every single play, and there's no limit to the havoc that this kind of defense could wreck.

Maybe with Browner playing CB that's still awesome, Browner + Revis, Revis + Dennard , Dennard + Browner, put Ryan on the mix and we can even get tha players some rotation to not risk injuries.

Dmac and Harmon will improve a lottttttt with these guys backing up.

Now certainly we can have a better picture for the draft, offense and LINES.

AHHHH, I'M SO EXCITED.

I'd rather have Shaun Phillips for $2M than Jared Allen for 8-10, but otherwise I share OP's enthusiasm.

Have to admit Jared Allen makes to much sense now. Then there is only Mack left afterwards ( its ok to dream )

Brandon Browner is not a safety. We gave him corner back money, in my opinion.

So Ward and Whitner got "corner back money" in your opinion as well.

You play your best players together, and in order for that to happen (along with Dennard, McCourty, and Revis), then you play him at strong safety.

The new pass defense

From a broncos fan:

I've only had one glass of wine so far, but I think This will blow up in the Pats face. Revis has been a pain in each teams side the last few years and teams can't wait to dump him and Browner is good but a tad over rated in my mind. They better hope they keep Wilfork because without a push those two will get worked all year.

Uh. 1 glass of wine buddy? Good god...i forgot revis is a JAG

No pass rush according to them so we have no shot

That's sort of my video, but I really don't care too much what his nominal title is. He'll be matched up on bigger WRs as a CB, he'll drop into man coverage frequently whether he's lined up as a CB or a S, he'll match up on TEs, he'll slip underneath and punish receivers, he'll blitz. He'll play the robber on one play and be an outside CB on another. Remember when BB switched Ty and Rodney around to confuse Manning? Browner will allow BB and MP to create tons of confusion. He'll be an impact player on our defense when teamed with Revis, McCourty and Dennard.

Antoine Bethea got $5.25M AAV on his contract, so him too. Basically every good safety on the market got 'cornerback money' if Browner did.
