#Patriots Pro Bowl DT Vince Wilfork has asked that the team release him after 10 seasons in New England, according to sources.

Sad to see him go, assuming they honour his request. Let's just hope he doesn't go to the Broncos.

More cap space for us though. Net cap savings of $7.58 million

[Takes off hat and bows head]

Very saddened right now.

Respect to one of the all-time GREAT Patriot players and persons.

Praying it would not come to this.............

too bad so sad ... Will miss ya big guy ..

Wow! Intrigue level just went over 9,000.

Damn, really gonna miss him but the money was too much and he is coming off a severe injury. Definition of a true Patriot who exemplified the Patriot Way.

Going to need to get Louis Nix III in the draft.

Thank you for everything you've done Vince, truly one of the all time Patriot greats.

Wow......... .

Good luck Siliga. Next man up.

This saddens me as a Hurricane ... Vince is probably one of my favorite Patriots and football players of all time.

That being said, the sober evaluation is that this is probably in the best interest of both parties. And now we look to have a bunch of cap room to play with.

Sad news but I am not shocked. Him and Mankins are the same. No way no how they take less.

I'd have released him for the cap room but its a shame the negotiations(?) it got to the point he asked to be released.

sign BJ RAJI NOW!!!!!!!!!

Hope we are parting w/him on decent terms. Love the big guy but he cost too much and it'll be for the best.

How much would we save?

Had to be expected. I just don't see how the Pats can give him a true extension without evidence that he can come back effectively from his injury.

From Adam Schefter:

Wilfork made it clear to Patriots in recent weeks he will not restructure deal.

Was waiting for this day. He obviously did not want to do what NE asked him to. I was listening to WEEI on my way to work this morning an LaCanfora was on and he said he can't see a good market for Wilfork if he's released. Where do people suppose he ends up?

I think Big Vince is going to be very disappointed in his market

Hope they honor his request. I hate to see him go, but they need the cap room. He will be a huge loss in the locker room, IMO.

Hopefully cooler heads prevail on this one.
