What's Next, after signing Revis?

Big Vince is the next domino to fall. Either he restructures or is cut, he simply can't play with an $11mil cap hit. I'm hoping he decides to restructure. As I said yesterday, my ideal scenario would be:

- Re-sign Edelman (I would also love Steve Smith but that is unlikely)
- Sign DE Julius Peppers (unlike Allen he wouldn't count as a qualifying free agent for compensation purposes)
- Sign LBer Wesley Woodyard
- Sign an interior OL

To get all of this done it might require Wilfork to be cut and maybe another casualty like Connolly. But DE and WR would be my biggest priority.

Focus early in the draft on DT (Nix or Hageman possible candidates) and TE (ASJ or Niklas)

I would target more players who were released from their teams as opposed to UFA's. That way we get compensatory pick for Talib (3rd or 4th) and signing Revis doesn't count against us.

Jason Avant(WR)? Julius Peppers(DT/DE)? Phil Costa(C)?

They could also cut Amendola and designate him a June 1st cut. Extend Wilfork. Resign Edelman.

Woodyard would be nice. He is very fast, good coverage LB.

Note: any compensatory pick would be in 2015.

I just don't get the whole "extend vince" stuff. He is clearly being difficult in negotiations after sustaining a torn achilles...and he weighs 350+. IDK, maybe it's just me, but I think it's time to move on.

I can't help myself. I love Vince Wilfork on my team.

Tony gonzalez!!!

Nr. 89.

Ice up Son!!!!

Coming soon to #Patriots :rocker:

There is one thing you can do for me...win...win

Well since it looks like this is not gonna be a complete "mortgage the future" year for us we need to look at this in a cap conscious way to an extent (the Pats can fudge the numbers a bit).

Here are my few insights if this is the path the Patriots are on

#1 DON'T invest much in a SS. Revis/McCourty and co can help cover up that weakness. It would be great to get an impact guy but i think you need to improve your pass rush more. Get a cheap/decent vet and just work around it.

#2 Get a DE. There is likely not a sure fire impact guy in our drafting future. Ealy is the closest thing but might not be there and is not worth trading up for. This could be Allen or a pass rush specialist but this is a need you don't leave till draft time

#3 Get a vet WR. We need immediate help here. Either we resign Edelman or sign someone else. Again we don't need to break the bank but we need a veteran option not named Amendola and we don't want to rely on 1st/2nd year players & Amendola here.

That is pretty much it. Any other moves you can make to improve your team do it of course.

I think DT&TE are needs you address in the draft in the first 2 rounds.

No. Why in hell would you cut Amendola, the best WR currently on the team, to save 880k?????????

Restructure Gostowski.

Restructure (or cut) Connolly.

Restructure Wilfork.

There's about 6 million extra.

Then backload your next signings. Give Woodyard a 4-year deal. He's young and athletic. Steve Smith is old, but I don't care - he scares the s*** out of DBs and is one nasty YAC guy. After watching him eat Talib for lunch this year, I have faith he could thrive here for a couple of years.

Jared Allen won't work - his team WENT to Denver with the offer Demarcus Ware got and we can't afford that...as in, I don't think it's possible to make it work.

Peppers might come cheaper, but we're probably looking at the draft for DL help, unfortunately. So cross your fingers and hope Kelly/Wilfork/Armstead can play well, I guess.

rework Wilfork sign Steve smith and a coverage LB and Draft a C and RG

We also will sign an OL. Wendell and Svitek are free agents.
We also will sign a LB. Spikes and Fletcher are free agents.

what about hakeem nicks? dude is a beast when eli isn't being a goober . i think he would be great on a 1 year-prove it deal

Well LB and OL is not big on my radar. All we need at LB is a decent backup. If we get Woodyard all the better but that will not be a big signing. Also yes we need OL help but I don't see it costing us much. If need be we can Cut Connolly and use spread that money around. The key is I don't want to invest any more money in OL than we already have so anything we do there should be a cap neutral move IMO (with maybe throwing 1.5M that way tops).

I am down for that but he gets injured a lot : (

We really need a vet we can depend on. The last thing we need is Amendola going down and the other Vet we bring in going down.

Can I have one day to enjoy the Revis signing before I have to contemplate additional requirements Patsfans? Just one lousy day is all I ask.

He isn't taking a 1 year prove it deal. He is going to Carolina (back home) on a extended deal. Pass on that.

Our cap is seriously tight. Without an an immediate cut of Wilfork, I see us focusing on WR and couple of less expensive positions: RB and OL.

If Wilfork is cut, there the more expensive options are agains available.

Only if you choose not to open the site for a day.

While I agree. No time for that! NEXT! WHO WANTS SOUP?!...YOU...WANT SOUP?!

NO!!...now...WE HAVE NO RECEIVERS!!!

I'm buying as much stock in that one as soon as the market opens this a.m.

millions!

oh i missed that...last i heard he was open to a one year deal...

also saw that he had a wonderlic of 11...not sure how that goes around here as BB likes higher scores usually possibly as a qualifier to how the player will grasp the playbook
