One could argue that we've arguably overpaid for Logan Mankins. Wes Welker got nearly $10M in his last contract with the Pats. Randy Moss got paid. Adalius Thomas got paid. Vince Wilfork got paid. Mayo got paid. Gronk got paid. And we're paying now for paying Aaron Hernandez.
Cmon, Ocho Cinco, Joey Galloway, Donald Hayes aside they've been pretty good finding these types. Austin Collie for one, surpassed my expectations last year.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you were never a Patriots fan before 2001.
Maybe a receiver, like Deion Branch, in 2006 instead of a bunch of scrubs and we beat Indy.
It's just funny that people think the reason we win a lot in the regular season is because of our shrewdness in free agency and NOT the best QB and coach of all time. Our stupidness in free agency has held us back.
I don't blame Edelman for testing the market. I just hope the Pats have a solid backup plan. Currently they have Gronk coming off an ACL tear, Dobson with foot surgery, Amendola and his injury history, and 2 other WRs who just finished their rookie seasons. I think they should go after someone who can stretch the field vertically, something they have lacked for a few seasons now.
I was 7 in 2001, so I was just getting into football.
I'm just frustrated that we're gonna let another 100+ catch receiver go and fans are going to applaud us for being so much smarter than every other team for sticking to the model. It's stupid. The model is not working.
Problem was the backup plan was not great least season. Hopefully its better this season.
is that a picture of welker after he dropped the game winning catch or Talib after Welker took him out of the game?Robert Kraft: "We wanted Julian back but, when he didn't sign before Tuesday, we had to move on to plan B."
Jonathan Kraft: "It was his agent's fault."
Edelman's agent: "The deal was not fair value, and we didn't appreciate the deadline issued."
Tom Brady: "%#$@&"
Patsfans.com: "Edelman is an evil traitor!"
Wes Welker:
"Welcome to the club, Minitron."

I just want us to maximize the Brady/Belichick window. That's all.
In reporting the Edelman breakdown, Ian Rappaport reported alleged interest by the Pats on Andrew Hawkins who's a RFA from the Bengals
BB is not great picking wide outs. Correct me if I am wrong but the only good receivers he has ever drafted was Branch and Givens. The best best FA he signed was Moss and Welker, who was not Welker at the time.
Don't forget to add Reche Caldwell, Chris Johnson, Douge Gabriel, bethel johnson, Taylor Price, Jeremy Ebert, Brandon Tate, Matthew Slater , P.K. Sam, Brandon Lloyd, Kamar Aiken, Torry Holt to the list of BB flops.
And what is scary is that Collie Brady's most reliable receiver for a couple of games last season.
Love your remarks. I predicted Kraft's speech a couple days ago.Robert Kraft: "We wanted Julian back but, when he didn't sign before Tuesday, we had to move on to plan B."
