Red Bryant A Patriot? Not This Time Either...

I guess the Deadrick/Love didn't work out for the Jags.

The first thing that popped out to me was that it was a 4 year deal. Off the top, that seems like a long time, though we'd have to see how the deal actually works out before we make a judgement.

I wasn't that hot on Bryant, though I wouldn't have hated a low cost signing. His production had dropped considerably recently. My guess is that the Jags overpaid, and this was viewed by Bryant as money he just couldn't pass up.

I agree, though it might work for Bradley. Draft Khalil Mack #3 as your LEO, Move Tyson Alualu to 3-tech. Good start.

I'd have rather signed Bryant than draft one of the DLs in the first or second round.

I was not personally on the Red Bryant fan bus.

I didn't think it be a smart move to invest much money in a DT that is mostly a run suffer. I think we would be much better off getting a pass rushing DT and worry about stopping the run 2nd.

I wish him luck though in Jacksonville.

was not a fan of signing a none pass rushing DT anyways

Worst off season ever!!! Doooooomed I tell you....doooooomed

So we could of got bryant for a 3 million cap hit in 2014?

Aight Bill

I like Bryant but I'm not sure was the best fit for what we need. He struggled when playing DT for the Seahawks and only picked his play up when moved to DE.

So he wouldn't have come in and helped us at DT and he wouldn't have come in and helped the pass rush either. Would have been a nice player to have but certainly not at the top of the list of priorities.

Either give us a proper edge presence or a proper DT. He was a bit of a half way house.

Are you seriously going to blame Bill when you have no clue who Bryant himself was even interested in?

He went and signed with his old DC, one of the reasons he initially re-signed with Seattle in the first place.

Bryant also wasn't going to determine whether we won or lost a single game had he come here, this isn't a loss by not getting him.

That's a really good investment for him, prevents you from having to use a first rounder on a guy like Louis Nix.

$m to buy you a first rounder that you can use on a Kyle Fuller CB or something like that.

Bryant is a DE, Nix is a nose tackle. Two different positions.

Depends on the defense. If you're in 3-4, you're right, but Seattle had him inside in the 4-3 a lot.

Bryant is going to Jacksonville to fill the same role in the same scheme as he played in Seattle. It's almost as if my scheme argument against the Pats signing him actually had some validity. The Pats need DTs, and he's not a DT.

We have Bryant at end on 95% of his snaps last season. So there's that.

I wanted him at first but I would rather have Jared Allen now anyway.

That's a great deal for the Jags. As much as I wanted Bryant here, if the schematic fit is better in Jacksonville then it's a good deal for both parties.

It'll be interesting to see who the Patriots have prioritised as Defensive Line targets given that friendly contract.

From the Seahawks to Jacksonville...hmmmm....guess it's all about wanting to win, eh?

I would prefer Mike Neal for that kind of money. Younger, more versatile, more explosive.

I agree I think 3 years/$8 million would have been about the peak I would offer Bryant. That is what Cullen Jenkins received last season.

The year we wanted Bryant we were using Deaderick at LDE and running a much heavier run stopping oriented front, they have moved away from that so I was not surprised to see us show little interest in Bryant this go around.
