What the Pats want for Mallet according to

Rohan Davey, Kliff Kingsbury, Damon Huard, Kevin OConnel, Mat Cassel, Brian Hoyer, Zac Robinson.
Who are 7 guys with more trade value than Ryan Mallett? I'll take NFL cities for 800, Alex.

Key word: BACKUP.

The Patriots are not getting the #33 pick in the draft for a career backup with 1 year remaining on his contract who has shown absolutely no indication whatsoever that he can succeed at the professional level.

Yep, NFLcoaches and coordinators pick SUCKY players as backup QB' s because they know the starter will never get hurt and don't really care if they do.

One word comes to mind when I read the drivel you are posting-BLOVIATION

What a douchebag.
Ah yes, personal attacks. Another sign of the truly pathetic.

Go rent yourself a sense of humor.

He may not bring the 2nd we all want but I have no idea where you come up with the idea that he is worth less with 3 years experience and after proving his character than when he was Drafted SUP.

Nothing more than the trade compensation norm for these kinds of situations, Ivan.

It's just my opinion that Mallett would currently bring in 4th round value. I'm just seeing trade compensation and draft position as different entities, that's all.

Just a matter of different opinions.

According to PatsFans message board posters, last year Ryan Mallett was worth the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the year before Brian Hoyer was worth a second round draft pick.

Truly sad that you think you're making a valid point. Not wasting any more time in here. We'll all find out soon enough whether Mallett has the goods.

Did you just say he has 3 years of experience??!??

I apologize for my earlier post, friend!! I guess you do have a sense of humor!!!

Talk about BLOVIATION!!!

Mallett is unproven. But so is every qb in the draft. He hasn't done anything in 3 years. But how could he have? He didn't cause the pats to bench the goat? Is that a valid knock on him? He was highly thought of coming out of college and some may still think so. What is he worth? I don't know but a third seems reasonable. But who can say? He probably won't be traded anyway.

Well, Barkevious Mingo hasn't exactly set the sports world on fire.

Fair enough Sup. I see it differently but you may be right that no-one is going to give them more than that for him, the only reason i think it's possible O'Brien might is because he coached him and he could see him as a really good player, and in his case it would free up his 1st overall and give him a QB with experience running his system.

It's not an attack if it's true, and you really are a douchebag.

I keep saying Houston's 3rd pick (#65). I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility or reason. It's basically a low 2 and we got him @#73. I believe he's going to one of these QB starved franchises. The options in this draft are weak at best. It's not as bad as last year but there ain't no slam dunk in this bunch.

That's probably closer to real value but i just don't see Belichick letting him go for anything less than high 2nd. I think he would trade him for a top 45 pick but would keep him if that doesn't come, and there is really only one team that would be interested as i believe Cleveland is going for a rookie QB. Mallett really only makes sense at that price for one team, and that depends completely upon how O'Brien sees him, and we have no idea how that is, but at least in this case we will get a chance to see.

But, they played with Tom Brady.

Probably met Gissele too.

I think a 3rd/4th for Mallett is probably the best case for the Patriots. But...at that price, why trade him and then have to find another backup?

I see Cousins for a 2nd for being thrown around alot too. For the same reason as Mallett, I don't see that happening. Why would someone trade a 2nd round pick for a guy entering his 3rd year and seems like a decent backup and average/mediocre starter? It makes sense for these teams to draft someone with that 2nd rounder, get him cheap for 4 years, and groom him.

Cousins and Mallett come with as many questions as the draftees do, except they will be more expensive. The worst thing for the Redskins was Cousins looking like crap (against very poor defenses) - its alot harder to sell someone like him when there is actual film to look at.

I'm not sure what Mallet is worth but I'm beginning to understand what others think of this QB class.

Jets | Analyst thinks Geno Smith would be top QB pick in this draft
Thu, 27 Feb 2014 10:13:15 -0800

CBS NFL analyst Phil Simms thinks that New York Jets QB Geno Smith would be the top quarterback taken in the 2014 draft if he was part of the process this year. "I think if Geno Smith was in this draft class he would be the number one guy, without question," Simms said.

Word has it that Houston isn't drafting a QB #1 (for what it's worth this far out). I expect them to sign Cassel. But hey, they might give a pick for Mallett - maybe their 3rd rounder? Or even their fourth?

If that happens - doubt it, I expect the Pats to draft McCarron.

I really don't think they are taking a QB with the first pick, I think it will be smoke and then they trade out for multiple picks. On the other hand i think the only way Mallett goes to Houston is if O'Brien likes him enough to either give up the #33 or some combination where they give the #33 and NE gives them back a pick (5th or 6th). I don't believe belichick would give Mallett up for a 3rd or 4th after 3 years training him. as I have said before i have no idea if O'Brien thinks enough of him to pull that trigger but the idea that there is no chance of it is ludicrous imo, if he didn't think Mallett could play he never would have stood for him as the back-up when he was OC.

Yikes, that's not good news for teams that need QBs. I was under the impression that 2013 was a notably bad year for quarterbacks, and that Bridgewater and Bortles were both head and shoulders above anyone from last year as prospects, just for starters. It'll be interesting to see if this sentiment gains traction, because currently I'm wondering if Simms is just trolling for headlines.
