What do the Patriots do if Arrington says no to a pay cut?

DeAngelo Hall just got $5 million per for 4 years. Talib is a lot better than Hall

Absolutely nothing. The keep him on the roster and eat the salary.
Not saying you're necessarily wrong but, why not? To win you have to stop the other team from throwing the ball too.I don't see BB ever paying a CB upwards of 8 mil a year
+1. We see the same problem in the "trade Mallett" thread. People here are just not realistic in terms of what a player is worth, either in terms of dollars or draft picks. Can we please get away from thinking that players should enjoy a **** sandwich in lieu of actually getting competitive contracts?
"Talib will take whatever the Patriots decide to offer him and like it, or he's an evil traitor and will be hated forever!"/Patsfans.com
Not that those extreme personalities don't exist on this board, but I'm not seeing that here. All I'm seeing is people who are concerned enough about Talib's late season availability that if he wants more than 5-6 mil per year, they'd rather invest the money in other positions (of which there are plenty to upgrade).
Well, he has franchised Samuel and Law and while the franchise number is higher today than for those guys, the cap has also risen as well. I don't know the exact ratios but it's probably reasonably similar.the market appears to be pricing Talib out of our range imo.
I don't see BB ever paying a CB upwards of 8 mil a year, and realistically that's what Talib deserves.
First, at least one poster doesn't even want to pony up the $5m, which we all know was an underpay, that Talib made last year.
Second, I just chose a number at random, in order to make the point. We've seen this crap with Mankins, Welker, and any number of other players. Far too many posters here have the idea that the Players are always the bad guys in contract negotiations. You'd think that guys getting cut just a year or two after signing deals would smarten those posters up.
Sadly, you'd think wrong.
Again, I'm not arguing that those people exist, what I'm saying is in this situation with Talib, I'm not seeing a Pats Good - Player Bad vibe, I'm seeing legitimate concern about overpaying for talent that is of questionable reliability.
Are you saying that if the Patriots are wary of Talib's injury, character, and suspension history, enough so that they don't feel like overextending on a long term, big money deal, that they're the bad guys here?
I'm saying that you're looking at this thread, while I'm looking at the actual history. Saying you don't see it here is like saying "I don't see post-divorce hostility among these newlyweds.".
No. I'm saying that, no matter what number, and no matter what reason, far too many people at Patsfans.com will blame Talib if no deal is reached.
I'm looking at this thread because that's where I'm posting. You're already assigning these opinions to people that haven't voiced them yet. It's more like you saying, "These newly-weds get along nicely. But they'll be divorced soon, and it'll be ugly!" Let's at least wait until it comes up before you spear people for it.
And if he signs somewhere else for too much money, far too many will rail on the Patriots for "Not going the extra mile" or "being cheap" or some other such nonsense. There's stupidity on both sides.
Now you're being disingenuous in an effort to assert some level of 'moral' equivalence. You post here far too often to be pretending that the numbers on both sides of that equation are anywhere near equal.
If they cut Arrington with a 6/1, designation, would it be $1.65M against the 2014 cap and $3.25M against the 2015 cap?
I am not saying I would do that, I am just curious.
