Many have been talking about cutting Kelly and Adrian Wilson. I suggest that we wait to see if they can pass a camp physical. IMHO, that would be the time to cut them, or allow them to compete in camp. If they are healthy, they could be solid veteran additions for a season or two.

Of course, I understand that medical advice could have them retired or cut before then.

Didn't Adrian Wilson stink it up in training camp? From what I recall he was two steps slow on pretty much everything.

Can't imagine Adrian Wilson is in the league next year. He looked pretty bad in the preseason unless he was injured the whole time. Would love to have a healthy Kelly. I'd think he would be cut and come back on vet minimum.

We put him on IR instead of cutting him. I have presumed that he was injured for most of camp.

of course they are going to wait..why wouldn't they?

I have no interest in a 35 year old Adrian Wilson coming off an Achilles injury.

Tommy Kelly is a player I'd actually like to see back especially if he was willing to cut his cap # down to $1 million or less.

Some would want to have the cap money available for re-signings or free agent additions.

If you think he might possibly fit and stick you wait as long as possible. If you don't think he'll fit you cut him early out of respect for a veteran with a solid track record, so that he has a chance to catch on somewhere else. If you think it's unlikely but possible you hold on to him unless you need the cap space badly enough.

I have a standard message for those who want a veteran starter to sign for a cap value of $1M of less. "Bye!"

I think Adrian Wilson will retire his done. Kelly at 2.5 million is a good deal for a vet Pro bowl DT

Huh? Who are you saying bye to the people who want that the player to do that or the player. Are you like the advocate for people who have $50+ million in the bank?

Kelly has made plenty of money in his career he likely wants a chance at a Super Bowl. He can restructure to help the team position itself to have the best chance to win and get the ring he likely lusts for at this stage in his career.

Not "bye" to you.

I suggest that pro-bowlers who are asked to cut their salary to the vet minimum when they started the year before are likely to tell the team that asked them to cut their salary to take a long walk.

I suppose that there are players who simply aren't interested in money and risk their lives and limbs every day just so the owners can make money and so that they might be on a Super Bowl team.

What you are saying is that
1) Kelly doesn't care about money.
2) Kelly can't get minimum or more from another competitive team.

Sometimes players can actually find a competitive team to play for that doesn't ask him to take a 50% pay cut (or more).

For me, when someone asks me to cut my salary in half, I don't ask them what else they would like me to give them.

I thought Wilson had a hamstring injury, not an achilles injury. Very different problems.

In any event, Wilson was believed to be on the roster bubble. If he can play, no problem with him sticking around but I think he is a long shot. They won't pay him if he just ends up as depth. I'm not optimistic he'll return.

I agree I would like to see Kelly return.

I could be wrong (Yes, I was wrong once, look it up) but didn't Wilson recently tweet that he'd had an achilles injury?

Seems reasonable to wait until training camp. Kelly would be due a $50,000 workout bonus if he earns it. Wilson does not have a workout bonus due according to overthecap.com. So, wait and see doesn't really cost anything in terms of a big roster bonus.

What we don't know is how they accorded themselves on the team last year and how they fit in or stayed connected as the season went on. Were they leaders? Respected? Dedicated to their rehabs?

I don't consider either to be a big difference maker. Kelly marginally more of a difference maker than Wilson.

I think that a healthy Wilfork plus a young DT (draft pick - somewhere first 3 rounds) would allow Silinga, Jones, and Vellano to be rotational players as opposed to every down players out of necessity.

Sopoaga was a healthy scratch for most of his time here, so he can be let go to free up some cap space.

Adrian Wilson makes Ed Reid look young and in his prime. The guy looked well done during his last season with Arizona. He's got to be completely burnt up by now.

Per rotoworld, he tweeted that on December 20.

There is no relationship between the two.
Yes there is. The "big nickel experiment" was a flop during preseason with Adrian Wilson as the dime back. Dane Fletcher filled in this season as the dime linebacker once Mayo went down.

Stick a fork in Adrian Wilson, he is done.
