Chicago's Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs and the Bears is officially moving to the next stage.
"I am now prepared to sit out the year if the Bears don't trade me or release me," Briggs told FOXSports.com via cell phone Monday. "I've played my last snap for them. I'll never play another down for Chicago again

We couldn't possibly sign him? W e do have two #1's
Can you image......

yeah...just what we need...Lance BRANCH...holding out.

It depends on what the Bears want to do. From what I've heard they intend to play hard ball with him. But for the right price, anything can happen.

wow....just think...........how absolutley DEADLY that defense would be

I would give both of our picks for Briggs in an instant.

Remember his complaining that he wants to play in a 4-3 though to allow him to make more plays? Giving up both firsts and a ton of money for Briggs wouldn't be worth it if he isn't going to be happy in his role here.

Didn't he say he basically had zero interest in playing in a 3-4?

How many times do we have to go through this?

I think we're at Lance Briggs thread #1,000,000.

When will people get the message?

i would never give our two first rounders for briggs. hes a great player, but he is not a good enough player to give up both 1st rounders. the patriots wouldnt have to give up both picks.

I like Briggs' talent but 1) He's another outside linebacker and 2) He has said he wouldn't want to play in a 3-4 defense. So I don't see it working out. Our outside backers are Vrabel and Colvin now with "Big Hurt" Thomas playing elephant back. Pretty crowded and stacked already on the outside. We could use an ILB though and I am doubtful Briggs is gonna want to convert to ILB when he is willing to holdout for being franchised.

One would be plenty. I'm not a fan of that but with what we've added this offseason, if we could get Briggs and STILL have a #1 . . . WOW

To quote Briggs himself:

"The Chicago Bears team? The coaches, players, city and fans? Yeah, I could stay there forever. I love it. But the Chicago Bears organization? I don't want to be there anymore. I won't play for them and I'll do everything in my power to keep from playing there."

I don't quite know what to think of that. He sounds like a team player unsatisfied with the way that his front office is treating him, but we'll never really know.

Regardless, I don't know what we would do with him on our defense though. We already have Rosy and Vrabel on the outside, plus a possible Adalius if Vrabel goes inside. It's a sweet thought, but it's just not a need.

Vrabel can play inside too. We'd have Colvin, Vrabel, Thomas and Briggs who can play outside and Bruschi, Thomas and Vrabel who can play inside. Lots of rotation options there. And much needed depth.

He'd be a great fit for the Colts but at this stage I doubt they can afford him.

He mentioned the 3-4 4-3 thing when he thought he'd have a lot of freedom to pick where to go. As of right now, though... it seems he'd be happy to just get out of Chicago. And it's not like playing for the Pats is akin to being sent to the Cardinals, 3-4 defense or not.

Still, unless someone with a better understanding of our current cap situation explained to me that getting Briggs is feasible, Briggs to the Pats is not something I see happening at all. There's also the bit about us already having 5 starting caliber LBs (assuming we re-sign Seau).

No! You can't have ALL the toys!!

They'd have a hard time affording Cato June, let alone Briggs.

I like Briggs as a player, but I don't know if we really need him, especially iof he won't play the 3-4. Lets draft an ILB like Willis early and an outside guy later on to develop.

On a side note though, good thing we didn't trade that #1 for Moss

Trade them Ass-ante and a 3rd rounder or even the 28th pick.

he said hes not a 3-4 guy adn wouldnt like it..and a guy who wont take the money Chicago offers forget him. i HATE players who say they wanna leave a place and never play a down again.

thats much worse than Branch holding out when he said he wouldnt or Adam leaving for a rival
