2014 Draft Prospect Thread

I like Derrell Johnson of ECU as a late round linebacker that competes with Beauharnais for that big SLB/MLB backup slot. Johnson at 6-2, 264 reminds me a fair bit of Hightower if you imagine Hightower a a 3-4 OLB. Johnson is very strong, has a good bull rush and is tactically sound - rarely caught out of position.

I actually went to an ECU game this year, and he's got an entire cheering section of older, big guys who look like they played football about 20 years ago. They yell at him every single play, although he clearly can't hear them. Every time he made a play they were going crazy.

Good to have you back MHTK!

I wish. I'm too busy working to be back, but I am paying some attention.

BTW I also love Millard, Wilfork. I think if he's healthy he could bring a Marcel Reece like dynamic to the offense.

I am a big fan. Have to get him I think. Do you still like him?

Didn't watch much in the way of full games this year so I'm relying on Draft Breakdown so I haven't seen him. I'm not desperate for a safety and there are others I like more so he's not really on my radar to be honest. I like his hard hitting but I'm noe looking for more rounded safeties. Jimmy Ward is my guy this year.

Many guys to consider in the first, but I believe the safest pick would be notre dame ot/og Zack Martin. He seems like the perfect guard for us.

I mentioned Marcus Smith in the senior bowl thread earlier and I believe he won't even be in our reach after he kills it next saturday. With our first pick I am torn on Martin or Allen Robinson. I think Robinson is a weird combination of aj green and edelmen.

I haven't watched much either, I'm just assuming he progressed.

I'm also not desperate for a safety but that's why I'd target an upside pick like him later.

I don't remember him being a hard hitting, in-the-box type, but more of a heady well-rounded safety and great special teamer.

funny. My recollection was a heat seeking missile that knocked people out of their shoes.

I agree. I think this is a solid safety class, but it's more well evaluated than any I have ever seen. Very few overrated or underrated safeties. Which means good value is unlikely, i.e., if you draft a safety in the 5th round, you are getting a 5th round caliber player, neither good nor bad value. Good teams find 3rd or 4th round caliber players in 5th round, but that seems unlikely in this safety class. Outside of Ward, I think the only safety who seems like an exception is Craig Loston, who I think could be Charles Woodson in his advanced age. NOT the Charles Woodson that won DPOY, the Charles Woodson that at ages 36 and 37 is no longer athletic enough for corner but instinctive and big enough to still be a passable starting NFL safety.

Well last years Jonathan Cyprien was still to emerge at this point so there's still time. That guy Darby who had two picks last night for example. Not saying it will be him specifically but someone could do something to emerge into the draft spotlight.

As far as safetys go i'll be happy to wait for Landon Collins to come ot and put him next to Dmac.

Seriously, i like Pryor and in later rounds Dowling and Sunseri but thats about it.

Have you watched Jimmie Ward?

Some. I know he has ball skills but other than that i havent watched much.
Dont like his size though.

That is the one problem and why I don't include him in my mocks. Top notch game intelligence though.

First of all, awesome collection of all draft videos, like, ever. He has every draft video available on YouTube organized by position, and hundreds of full games. Over 1000 videos.

Tony Wiltshire Jr. - YouTube

Also, learn the name John Spooney. 5'11, 185lbs, outstanding man, Ivy league champion with 10.37 100 meter dash, had 150 carries for 1170 yards with a 7.8 yards per carry in 9 games in 2013.

For the record, any 100 meter dash champion at a DI conference who is larger than 5'9, 180lbs and is first team all conference at his position (non special teams) should be drafted before round 5. I can't imagine an exception.

Ben Gardner, DE, Stanford, huge ability and HUGE leadership and smarts that BB will love

manx and mayo what do you think about the idea of trading Mallett to the vikings for their 2nd round pick Turner likes a lot of arm strength in his Qb's and Mallett has that this would make sense especially if the texans, Jaguars and Browns take Bridgewater, Bortles and Manziel off the board their could be a chance that the Vikings don't think Carr is worth the 8th pick and pick someone like Robinson or Barr then we would have the 29/30 and 40 i think this would give us solid options and is probably a little more realistic than getting 33 from the Texans
