Rumor - McDaniels to be the Browns HC

I doubt McDaniels would take the job. Mangini took the Browns job after getting fired from the Jets and he's been in (NFL) witness protection ever since. In other words, you only get so many chances in the National Football League. Do you really want to roll the dice on the Browns franchise when you'll most likely have your pick of teams to choose from in the future?? Including, possibly, the Patriots?

I disagree of all coaching jobs I would want the Cleveland gig if I was a candidate; they’re a QB away from being a really good team. If they can retain their own free agents (they have the cap space) they have a talented young core:

Jordan Cameron
• Desmond Bryant
Josh Gordon
• Davone Bess
• Greg Little
Tashaun Gipson
Joe Haden
• Paul Kruger
D’Qwell Jackson
Alex Mack
• Chris Ogbonnaya
• Barkevious Mingo
• Ahtyba Rubin
• Jabaal Shead
• Phil Taylor
Joe Thomas
TJ Ward

The ones in bold are studs in my opinion. On top of that they have a ton of early picks in the upcoming draft.

• 1st Round Pick
• 1st Round Pick (IND)
• 2nd Round Pick
• 3rd Round Pick
• 3rd Round Pick (PIT)
• 4th Round Pick
• 4th Round Pick (IND)
• 5th Round Pick
• 6th Round Pick
• 7th Round Pick

Brady said today that he wants McDaniels back. But what does he know? No link, sorry. I'm at work and only have time for quick posts... short week.

EDIT: Didn't look up far enough, already been posted.

I don’t agree, the offense has not translucent last season, the defense forced 40 turnovers that is a lot more opportunity that resulted in points. This season the offense was not effective without Gronkowski.

Tom Brady is the best QB to ever play the game, there is nothing chicken **** about that.

It might not work out all the time, but when judging between people who are arguing, I'm usually going to side with the person who knows what words mean.

I disagree. Tim helped lead the team to the Playoffs and helped the team win a playoff game.

They were 8-8. If that is what you call helping them get to the playoffs (usually that is not a playoff year)...

Fox was the head coach also...

Agreed, Brady6. I have been telling my buds that the Browns could be a stacked team if the GM/coach gets this draft/FA right. Imagine an offense like this to pair with their great defense:

WR: Gordon
WR: Lee (rookie)
TE: Cameron
RB: Tate (FA)
QB: Hoyer/Bridgewater/Manziel

I hope McDaniels doesn't get poached. He grinds my gears from time to time but on the whole I think he's very solid and has a good rapport with Brady/BB.

I agree, he makes me nuts with short yardage empty backfield sets but overall he is probably the person best suited to be their OC. However i still don't want him to succeed Belichick when that time comes.

I gotta agree, Brady has made stars out of Weis, McDaniels and O'Brien. This is the most coveted job in all of sports.

:bricks:

McDaniels didn't need Brady to have a top 8 offense in 2008.

O'Brien didn't need Brady to help Penn State overachieve and get him on the radar for H.C. positions this year.

Weis didn't need Brady to help turn K.C. from a 4 win team into a 6 win team while increasing scoring production by 72 points, only to see that offense score 154 fewer points the following year once Weis had moved on.

Brady's the G.O.A.T.. Brady's also had 3 quality O.C.s during his tenure.

People here need to learn that calling a play that doesn't work is not the same as calling a bad play, and that calling a play that's different from what they would have called is not the same as calling a bad play.

He also drafted Thomas, Decker and Moreno.

You know things have changed in Denver when Moreno is being cited as a good first round pick.

It'll be a shame if McDaniels leaves, but that's what happens when your team is successful, so that's the silver lining. Doesn't surprise me, considering the hard on that Mike Lombardi has for all things Belichick, and I'm sure BB has an idea of who's up next if he leaves.

“Josh is the best offensive coach I could ever imagine,” Brady said. “He’s so prepared. He’s so confident in what he does. He figures out a way each week to get us in the best position as players to win.”

Not just a good coach, or a great coach. He's "the best offensive coach I could ever imagine". The ever diplomatic Tom Brady just put Josh McDaniels above BOB and Saint Charlie Weis.

Daboll would be my guess.

Agreed, and the Richardson trade tells you a lot about their FO. When they identify that a guy isn't as good as the hype, they won't hesitate to make the move that's right for the team. Granted, in this case it was pretty easy since Richardson was a Holmgren pick, and didn't reflect on them. But the way they handled Richardson was Belichick-ian. They realized that he would never fit their scheme (zone blocking RB in a power blocking scheme) and that in all likelihood he wasn't all that good to begin with, and they maximized value on him.

This team was also competitive before Hoyer and Campbell got hurt. In Hoyer, they have a strong backup QB who McDaniels has experience with and who can start in a pinch. They also have a ton of top-line talent, including the best LT in the NFL and one of the best WRs in the NFL, as well as the draft ammo to fill out the middle of the roster.

Pretty much the only way this situation could be better for McDaniels is if they had the #1 pick instead of the #4, and even with the 4 they should be able to get a really good QB prospect if that's what he wants. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take the job.

Give it up. Deus. If the boat anchor known as McDaniels had not run the offense, Brady could have thrown for 75 touchdowns per season and 7,000 yards and the offense would have averaged 60 points per game with 4 more rings to show for the effort. Brady just doesn't want to kick the man before he joins another team.

I agree they have talent but it's Cleveland. Gordon may drink and drive and speed and whatever else and get himself suspended for a long time. Theylll probably draft Manziel and all heck will break loose.

I hope this rumor does not pan out.

I hope Josh stays. Our offense is just starting to find its groove and could use stability at that coaching position. Then again I couldn't blame him if he left for a HC gig.

The facts are, he had Brady with Moss/Welker. He leaves and runs the Broncos into the ground, goes to St Louis who had the worst offense. Then comes crawling back here and gets Hernandez/Gronkowski/Welker. He also brought a bunch of crap like Greg Salas and Brandon ''sissy'' Lloyd, that never panned out. So, he gets fired from two places in like 3 years, all the personnel he brings here stink, but here as OC the Pats have a great offense. You tell me, is it him, or Brady?

Its neither. Brady looked awesome once Gronk and Vereen came back. He lost Welker, the criminal, Gronk, Lloyd and Woody. Thats a lot to overcome for any QB. Kenbrell and Dobson are inconsistent rookies (most rookies are) and not having a dump off back like he had in Faulk and Woody really hurt him I think.

He has adjusted well with Edelman and Amendola (playing at 70% at best due to his groin injury) and no true #1 TE. Vereen returning has helped significantly but this O is a running O now until next year when the staff revamps the passing attack or Amendola and Gronk get healthy.

I will say that I don't believe McDaniels is anything special. I do like Schiano. Hopefully he comes in as an assistant and eventually replaces Bill. He made mistakes in TB but so did Bill in Clev. A few years under Bill and Schiano will be primed to be the Pats next great coach.

It might not work out all the time, but when judging between people who are arguing, I'm usually going to side with the person who knows what words mean.

Good call my bad, it was early and I have a drinking/drug problem so mornings are tough

For the record though I wasn’t really arguing, I like PatsJew; he is a great poster and I assume he is Jewish and I am also Jewish and we have to stick together if we want to continue to control the media, and corporate America, the minute the Nazi Germans catch wind that we’re feuding in sports forums over offensive coordinators they’ll have the confidence to make a recommence…

I don’t really care about McDaniels either way to be honest my belief is as long as Belichick is here we will be just fine.

The facts are that you ignore:

Brady gone in 2008

Scoring improvement from year one to year two in Denver, even with all the turmoil

Loss of Bradford and all the starting receivers for the Rams

Yeah, if you ignore all that stuff, you can sort of, kind of, make a small argument that McDaniels has had some temporary problems. If you actually look at what happened, though, your argument is crap.

This one to me is pretty easy to read. The reason the Browns are rumored to be interested in McDaniels and O'Brien is because they like Hoyer going forward, as well they should because in his few games starting the Browns went from hapless under Weeden to suddenly looking like a playoff contender, before a slow decline under Campbell where they were good enough to just lose, before finally collapsing into being Cleveland again.

Hoyer had his yips but the Browns played those three games like they actually thought they could win and they did so. The ball was being distributed, it was coming out on time, and the team executed the two-minute drill. If you don't have that, not only do you not have a shot at winning, but you can't even evaluate the other skill players on the offense.

So to those who are salivating for some reason over potentially losing an OC and the backup QB in order to get that third-round pick back, I don't see that happening in Cleveland. If they entice McDaniels or O'Brien, they already have their system guy in place. Behind him there's going to be a high-pick developmental QB, and then some clipboard holder.
