Snaps: Siliga & Jones take lead role at DT - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Green came in for one snap, was targeted immediately in coverage, and handled it well.

Buchanan came in for one snap, also wound up in pass coverage, was targeted immediately, and gave up Fred Jackson's 37 yard catch-and-run. (When I called that out in the game thread, I didn't realize it was Buchanan's first snap of the game.)

Cha. Jones and Ninko were the only defenders to play literally every snap. The 4 starting DBs almost did, missing 1 snap each (a goal-line down). The LBs rotated a bit more, and while Chr. Jones and Siliga took most of the snaps, they got some breathers. or perhaps had downs -- especially Siliga -- where their role wasn't required.

For guys who weren't even in our organization Opening Day, I'm astounded how well Silver Slugger and Chris Jones are playing. Pick em up on waivers. Run-stuffing 5-tech and a 3-tech who can rush the passer a little. Whomever in our scouting staff recommended those two needs a raise. And, a bigger voice at the draft table.

I think you mixed up your 1- and 5- techniques -- but yeah, those guys have been excellent finds.

Jones is stud DE.

The hands to the face penalty on him looked like a BS call.

Bad habit. I'm still coming to grips we don't run the 3-4 any longer.

And memo to the CBS broadcasters: it's sil-LEE-guh, not sil-LING-guh. :violent:

Siliga apparently pronounces it see-linga just so you know. So unless you think he pronounces his own name wrong, the announcers are more right than you are.

And here is a pdf from Broncos where it says see-linga:
http://www.denverbroncos.com/assets/docs/UpdatedBios/2013/SiligaSealver.pdf

And Utah player bio page where it also says see-linga:
Player Bio: Sealver Siliga - The Official Athletic Site of the University of Utah

Really?!?! Well, I'll be. Oh well, never mind.

I can still complain when no one can say Hoo-Mah-Now-Wah-Nooey, right?
