Kind of but they have many picks and will get a QB - 4 could go top 10.

Looking at that. If they think Mallett could be a NFL QB why not give your 2nd? Then go WR, TE then RB with the 1, 1 and 3. That will completely change your offense right there. Pair that with Gordon and Cameron.
Their defense is pretty good how it is now.
... It's not like anyone is going to give up a 2nd round pick for Mallett in his last year before free agency without signing him to a nice deal first.
I don't know what O'Brien thinks of Mallett but, if he's a fan, wouldn't it make some sense, even if you don't like the price, for the Texans to draft Clowney at 1.1 and then trade for Mallett, even if it costs the 2.1 pick?
Apologies. I thought we were discussing the Cleveland situation with Lombardi etc.

My bad for not being clear. I was asking for your take, because the news had just shown the Texans game and the question came to my mind. I wasn't looking at what you'd written about the Browns.
I'm looking at the QBs coming out, and I'm looking at the teams at the top, and I've been asking myself some questions.
- If You're the Texans and you hire BOB, and you aren't enamored with any of the high end QBs, do you risk making that move?
- If you're the Rams, are you sure Bradford's your future?
- If you're the Rams, and you aren't sure that Bradford's your future, do you pass on Clowney (if available) to take the second QB in the draft?
I think the Rams will go forward with Bradford, and I look at those top 2 picking teams, and I see potential defensive groupings (or at least sub packages) with either of the following:
Texans - Watt/Smith/Mercilus/Clowney
Rams - Quinn/Long/Brockers/Hayes/Clowney
and I see QBs on divisional foes who have a great deal of concern about their health.
Would you as a fan of a struggling team that just fired its HC be pleased/enthusiastic about next season/buying tix if ownership hired the new HC from a defensive program that had been in the lower half of the league (in many stats) for the last several years?
I realize this disregards nuances about Patricia/the D situation (he has not exactly had the most capable personnel to work with, points allowed has been good) but team owners have to sell their HC choice to their fan base. Since nuances are beyond the attention span and/or capability to be understood by most fans, a new HC hire needs some selling point sound bites. Fair or unfair, JM has the sound bites while MP doesn't.
My humble opinion is that when we cut through all of those questions, all of which happen every year with only the teams and specific names being changed, will anyone feel confident enough to give up a 2nd/3rd pick + an assumed new deal for Ryan Mallett? How much would they offer assuming that he'd be competing for a starting role either this year or next? I think there's some grey area there.
I do not want McDaniels to leave
and worse, I DO NOT WANT DABOLL AS OC. Look at his track record as an OC. Bad offenses that regressed, and TERRIBLE in the red zone. TERRIBLE.
Yeah, but Patricia has that bad ass beard. That has to count for something, right? :rocker:
In all seriousness, when Belichick failed to name a "true" DC when it was obvious that Patricia was handling the role for the most part, I considered the fact that Belichick was not only trying to keep the pressure down a bit (much like Parcells did with him in his first year as the real DC), but that he may simply be tired of having his coaching staff pillaged on a yearly basis. I don't know if that had 1% of any bearing or not, and my guess is that it didn't, but the thought did cross my mind---especially after DCs Crennel and Mangini leaving for head coaching jobs.
It may only be a matter of time before someone at least interviews and show interest in Patricia, but it isn't likely to happen this year and maybe even not the next. That may not have been the case had we remained a top 5 statistical defense as was through the first 4-5 games prior to the injuries.
Josh McDaniels is definitely the better choice though, especially since he already held the position in the past with DEN. People tend to like an offensive minded younger coach, I think.
