Now San Franciso is interested in him. I wonder if these offers are faked by his agent.

Link ? .......

I hope everyone make an offer to Stallworth. As long as he is not playing for the Pats next year, I will be a happy man.

The guy is an injury machine. I research his draft info and notice that he was hurt that year also. So, every darn year, he is hurt and couldn't realize his potential....when is it going to end ? 'til he is 38 ?

Pffft. Let him go to the highest bidder. The Titans can overpay him like Givens.

The Patriots rarely indulge in bidding wars. They set a value and stick to it. Seems to work as no other team has done better than them this millennium.

I like Gonsalez with pick #28 anyway.

Alright BB/Pioli write Stallworth off the list. Who's next?

The Pats are not going to get into a bidding war over this guy.

It was also on Adam Schefter's column on NFL.com yesterday. "Wednesday's Comings and Goings of Free Agency".

Yep, he's gone and good riddance. His agent wanted nothing more than a bidding war to drive up his perceived value. And he even might have had a message from Philly to go out and see what he could get, as he's stated he prefers staying with them. There are other fish in the sea.

This is not a player the Pats would want for any more than one season as it is. If they could have "stolen" one season from him while he attempts to drive up his value, that might have been good. Anything more is not worth the risk and headache.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Let the other teams give better offers than the Pats. If he is really serious about getting to a superbowl, he will come here. If he's only interested in the money and the agent USED the Pats to legitimize his abuse problems, then we are lucky he didn't sign and move on. There will be others. HIstory has proven that we can get a few guys in September and STILL be a contender. AND its long time between now and September

I get the impression Donte would like to prove a few people wrong. Being a big part of a Superbowl-winning team would go a long way in that. So I wouldn't write him off entirely, but it doesn't look good.

It didn't look good once he left town w/ out signing. O well. He would have been perfect for this offense.

I don't I don't get why people are acting like him receiving another offer is an automatic deal breaker. We don't know the details, or if it is more, less, or the same as the Patriots offered. We don't know enough for everyone to start shutting the door on him.

Well they probably know what we offered so they probably offered at least as much and maybe more. Plus as others have said I don't think we'll be getting into a bidding war over this guy.

If every team offered him the same salary, my guess is, he will probably end up in New England. Tom Brady gives him the best chance of increasing Stallworth's value, next offseason. I would be suprised if Stallworth re-signed with the Eagles because McNabb seems to get injured every year as well. Also, I don't think Stallworth would want to sign with Miami because they already have Chambers and Booker at WR. In fact, I'm sure Stallworth doesn't want to be a #2 option or #3 option at worst with the Dolphins and a question mark at QB. That leaves the Titans. Stallworth played his college ball in Tenn. and would be the #1 guy by default. So it would make sense if Stallworth ended up signing with them. I could also see San Fran coming out of nowhere and overpaying for Stallworth, but who knows?

My final prediction: Stallworth makes the right choice and signs with New England, has a great year with Tom Brady and gets his big contract with a new team, in the '08 offseason.

If Titans offered him a long term contract, why would he choose us and play for next offseaon?

What I mean is there might be more factors in his decision than just money. Like if the money is close, he might have a preference to which particular team. We just don't know.

I think it was just bad timing. While, in prior years, Stallworth's position might have been such that a one-year deal to set up a big money contract would have been the game plan, things are somewhat unique this off season. There is so much extra cap money floating around that he may have a potential opportunity this year that he wouldn't otherwise have had.

That is what it is -- while we might have been a perfect fit in other years, probably not so this year. It's not a reason to bash the guy or anything, it's just the situation. What I'm really curious about is what the Eagles have offered. If it's true that it's a one year deal, then I don't think I would want the Patriots to consider anything more. The Eagles are for better or worse in the best position to know right now whether something more is too risky.

So that's why he's trying out for the Titans, Dolphins and 49ers and turned down the Pats offer?

To be part of the 2007 Superbowl winning Titans/Dolphins/49er teams?

If so, he is too stupid to play for the Pats
