I don't like this development; anyone know the Pats' policy on this?

Wow another reason to dislike the Skins as an organization.

Snyder has been notorious for years for playing favorites in the media and been adversarial toward media outlets that are most critical. He even sued the Washington City Paper for defamation for writing an article called: "Cranky Redskins Fan Guide to Daniel Snyder".

I think it's a pretty good way to make some money and it incentivizes preferential treatment of the redskins by the media. Pretty smart in my opinion. If there is some value to access to the Redskins which the media clearly think there is, nothing wrong with paying for it.

Another revenue stream....good for them if someone is willing to pay.

Look in the dictionary next to "Napoleon complex" and there's a picture of Dan Snyder. Guy's a megalomaniac. When he bought the team, he also purchased fan sites (extremeskins.com) and fan magazines and made it so they couldn't write anything critical of the team, and posting something critical of Snyder on extremeskins was immediate ground for banning.

Redskins media ?partners? get preferential treatment in covering the team - The Washington Post

Charging the media for real time access to events. Wow. Not a good trend. Inevitable that this guy would be the first to do it, though.

Welcome to the real world. This is an entertainment business that provides content to other entertainment outlets. Why should any team provide free content for others to profit. Maybe in the past, the currency to gain favorable access to teams was "favorable" coverage. Now the currency is dollars. Seems a logical progression.
Do you have equal issue with players that have contractual deals with media for interviews after games/midweek. Why shouldn't that be free for all as well?

"Charging the media for real time access to events. Wow. Not a good trend.".....really. The NFL along with every sports league charges the media to telecast the games. Is that wrong too?

I think you mean another reason to dislike Snyder. That organization was once a respectable one, in the 1980's.

I get into arguments with Skins fans down here all the time. They are sheep.

Whenever they lament about their team and the owner - - I just say there is one easy answer for it: Stop buying his merchandise and putting money in his pockets.

Skins fans are nice, but stupid.

There will always be incompetent, malevolent and just plain stupid owners.

The REAL problem is the fan base that pays money for his product.

Regarding the main article cited here: Charging the media for access is a preposterous idea. A free press is a matter of public trust, and this involves news coverage that by and large only enhances the team's public profile. I'm surprised the 'Skins' "media partners" bought into it to the extent that they're now pulling stories the team doesn't like. It boils down to Snyder trying to control what is said about his team and how it's said.

I think the NY Post should be charged 5 million dollars a minute for access to ANY US sporting event. Sick of that scumbag, Murdoch and his yellow journalistic tactics.

Perhaps they will all write about how noble their team name is...

Washington DC is a hotbed of media manipulation? What a shock!!

Because it is a very slippery slope constitutionally. Freedom of press can't be limited based on the "type of news" as designated by the person making the news. Snyder doesn't get to say his news is different from other types of news, and therefore he gets to control access to it.

And, when you start charging, you are limiting who gets access to the information, and at what pace.

How much would you pay (no pun intended) to witness that sniveling snot Shank Shaughnessy (how's that for alliteration?) have to pony up some dough to his favorite owner, Amos Alonzo Kraft as Shank calls him. I've been told by those who seem to know that Shank still has 6 nickels from his first paycheck.

Kraft won't even stick it to Thomase or Borges.

He's above all that.
