2014 Draft Prospect Thread

Give me a tight end please. Jace Amaro, or wait til later rounds and pick up Lyerla. I know he's got issues, but I love him as a player.

Is he fast enough? NFL draft scout says about a 4.65 40. Thinking more RB than WR. He's also only 6' so not a TE.

I'm more concerned about his quickness in and out of breaks since I imagine him as a slot guy, working closer to where the ball is being thrown.

You could probably get Lyerla in the 7th or undrafted. I think Eric Ebron is a more likely option late in the 1st round.

Because an Offensive line can't stop a running back from fumbling.

An OL can stop a RB from fumbling if he keeps the defender away from the RB. . . .

While I'd like Ebron he's going to be expensive, I'd much prefer to spend a high pick on OL/DL. I'd definitely be up for Lyerla in the 7th but the guy has issues, hopefully he can get some treatment and get his head right but we'd need to get someone else in case he's still a flake.

Buzzkill!

I like Bishop Sankey. He reminds me of Pierre Thomas. I wouldn't want to pony up to get him probably, but he looks like a good future pro to me... vision is there, has a nice jump cut, doesn't get negative yardage. And he has pass catching ability too. I don't know about his pass pro but he can be effective on dump-offs.

I haven't even started to look at RB yet is I'll take your word on him

Has anyone had a chance to see Boston College's LT Matt Patchan? He's 6'7" and 300 lbs and is a convert from DE which suggests some athleticism. Went to Florida initially. Kind of sounds Patriot-ish.

I haven't seen him which is why I'm asking those of you likely to be local.

Haven't seen him either but must be doing a good job with Andre Williams in his backfield, I really like his size for now until I see him play, also sounds pretty smart and coach-able, which BB loves, from learning a new position and excelling at it

After this Nebraska-Iowa (BB-Kirk/Brian Ferentz connection) game I grew fond of some prospects for 2014 and possible beyond:
Jordan Cotton- Iowa-SR-WR/Gunner/Returner, reminds me of Matthew Slater, won't get drafted but would be an interesting camp add on, good size for WR, pretty athletic and plays smart, leader, like him a lot as a gunner over WR, well respected return man in BIG10
Mark Weisman- Iowa-JR-RB/FB, reminds me of Peyton Hillis, most likely enters in 2015, extremely strong and powerful back that finds holes easily, breaks a ton of tackles, great red-zone threat and powerback
Jake Long- Nebraska-TE-SR, very strong TE with great hands, strong blocker as well, not the best speed or the smartest runner but would be a nice pick-up in the late parts of Day 3 or post-draft in 2014, smart player as well, which BB loves
Randy Gregory- Nebraska-DE-Sophomore, 6'6, 255 lb. strong DE, shows flashes and will improve over time, look out for him in the 2015-16 NFL drafts on Day 1 perhaps, plays smart and aggressive, highly recruited, pretty athletic
Imani Cross- Nebraska-RB-Sophomore, 6'1 225ln short yardage back, look for him on 2015-16 draft boards, pretty strong, shows leadership, smart player which BB loves, hard worker
Ameer Abdullah- Nebraksa-RB/PR/Junior, undersized RB who is explosive on returns and in the backfield, projects as 3rd-down back in the NFL, should be taken day 2 in 2015, best returner in the BIG10 since 2011 as a freshman, playmaker

If that's a torn ACL for Mettenberger, that will knock him down the draft. If anyone in the forum is a big fan of him, he's in patriots draft territory now.

Wouldn't mind him at all Murray>McCarron>Mettenberger if I'm Pats

Looks like it's not that bad.

What about Scherff? I'll put him on my letter to santa this christmas.

Really? I view Murray as a not so gifted Peyton Manning that leaks his pants during the big games.

I don't know if you like Murray or not but I put him at the top of my list, the > sign means greater haha, but I just think he has the best talents out of them, Mettenberger wasn't even a Day 2 prospect before this season

Liked his play just didn't see his name yesterday, Iowa's left side of that line is mouth-watering, created so many huge holes for Weisman, I just didn't catch Scherff's name or the LG, either way I can't see BB taking him on late 1, early day 2 anyways which is where I see his name ranked frequently

Two more PSU prospects I like now are WR Brandon Felder, a tall athletic WR with great hands, won't get drafted but would like to see NE sign him to training camp, SS Malcolm Willis who is a very strong and quick safety that can stop the run but will get beat on the deep pass, he's a smart, versatile, experienced player that if he isn't drafted late Day 3, should get a few calls immediately from teams. Add these two guys to a list that already includes WR Allen Robinson, OG John Urschel, DT DaQuan Jones, and MLB Glenn Carson, who I was fortunate enough to see play football and wrestle here at the Jersey Shore, to list of PSU/Bill O'Brien prospects I love in 2014.

Also, one prospect from PSU that I've loved since his Frosh year and hoped BB would draft eventually is TE Jesse James, a 6-7 260 lb. sophomore who we will likely see on 2016 draft boards, remember his name, put him with Tyler Kroft from Rutgers, Hunter Henry from Arkansas, Johnny Mundt from Oregon, and OJ Howard from Bama as TEs to consider in the future
