2014 Draft Prospect Thread

He's never drafted a single player from there.

Not saying he never will but until it happens, I work on theory that there is some aversion to the program.

Well, I'm pretty sure he has a strong aversion to USC. He hasn't drafted one of their players in the first six rounds.

You want to talk really deep sleeper? I was watching Ryan Grant and Rob Kelley caught my eye. He should be starting next year without Darkwa, and he has excellent speed and quickness on film.

BB is an SEC/ACC guy, mainly. He likes the big boy football/athleticism.

only two players from the last 2 draft classes from the SEC/ACC, none last year. Hope he takes a very long look at Khalil Mack if he's there late in the 1st. DT/CB, Mack, DT/CB, OT/OG

Not sure if Shayne Skov has been discussed yet but, what makes him a late 2nd-early 3rd round ILB? The two Stanford games I watched he screams leader/beast. Is it athleticism or lack thereof?

Just wondering what makes Mosley a top 15 talent and this kid a 3rd round talent. They both seem like studs on the field to me.

I think there are bigger needs than LB in the second round.

Fans have a warped view of athletic ability. You hardly ever hear a draftnik call a guy like Connor Barwin or Shea McClellin a beast. It's a reverse racism. White guys can't be as good as the black players because the draftnik is white and knows he's not that good. So, the white prospect can't be that good either.

This is where I stand on the first two rounds right now (still people I haven't watched).

If we're lucky:

Ra'Shede Hageman
Stephon Tuitt
Louis Nix
Eric Ebron

(I'd 100% include Mack and Mosley here but think there's no chance of that).

I'd take with first:

Jace Amaro
Justin Gilbert
Bradley Roby

Not 100% Sure on 1st round value:

DaQuan Jones
Louchiez Purifoy
ASJ
Kyle Fuller
Darqueze Dennard
Travis Swanson

Luxury Picks worth considering:

Brandin Cooks
Jarvis Landry
Odell Beckham
Lamarcus Joyner
Ryan Shazier
Kyle Van Noy

That doesn't mean I've ruled out everyone else but those are the guys I like in the first two rounds right now.

So who's on your list?

Nice list. Interesting to see you have Justin Gilbert with the top group. He scares me because I haven't seen him play the ball with his back turned... always seems to be in zone. He sure looks the part though.

Have you watched Verrett yet?

- I’ve heard JJ Watt referred to as a beast.
- “Reverse racism” is a horrible term and should be discarded, any person of any race can be racist to people of any other race, any way it goes it’s just plain racism.

Yeah, you found one example out of of hundreds. Are you denying draftniks call many black prospects beasts? You see it all of the time. Now, that's a racist comment. Calling a human being a beast.

I’ve heard of other white players referred to as beast: Alan Faneca, Nick Mangold, but not Wes Welker, I suspect one has to be large in addition to a great player.

It’s actually not racist at all to refer to a person as a beast as it’s not specific to any race.

Not for us, I was just curious in general. I think he could be a steal for a team that really needs a LB.

I do have a couple of questions with regards to Gilbert. One is run support where I think he's weak and the second is his ability to react when the ball is in front of him. But in terms of turning and running with a receiver, I think he's borderline elite. I'd be happier putting Gilbert on a #1 receiver than most of the corners in this draft than my other favourites in Dennard and Fuller who are ideal #2 guys. Both are great physically but might lack the athleticism and size to turn and run with Vincent Jackson et al.

As for Jason Verrett, I can see why people like him so much but the dude is tiny, looks much smaller than listed. I also think he gets too grabby when put under pressure. Still, at times he can be shutdown. A second round grade for me, mainly based upon his size.

The question I think you have to answer with Skov is, does he have sideline to sideline speed? And do you keep him on the field on every down? For me the answer is an unequivocal yes on CJ Mosley and "I'm not sure" on Skov.

I could see BAL taking this kid

I said the other month that if you want to retain a Spikes type, but not Spikes himself, let him get picked up by Pittsburgh or the likes and draft Skov in his place.

It's still all about Chris Borland though....

Andre Williams with another 263 yards today. BC's 2 minute drill was handing off to him in I-form. He ripped off a 37 yard run and BC kicked the game winning FG.

This kid is Alfred Morris 2.0. Me want.

Alfred Blue is a very patient runner, nice vision, and takes what's there. I think he's returning next year but if you want a replacement for Ridley, it could be another LSU guy.

Mettenberger though.......*shudder*.

I want.
