Peyton Manning in Cold Weather games

Obviously I have no way to back this up, but OTOH most of his damage has come on the edge. If I am mistaken, then I am happily mistaken, b/c he has more value to us if he can rush from the interior. But whenever I look, he's been better on the outside.

Well, Jones has been effective everywhere he's lined up. The guy has come into his own and that he's remained healthy this year has been a godsend in an otherwise horrible car wreck on that side of the ball with regard to injuries this season. You may want to watch him closer when he lines up at DT (which I suspect he will this weekend), because he's been very effective in that role.

Luckily, I believe it's supposed to be both.

NOAA's still got 'blustery' conditions predicted, with the projected low down to 14° F. Poit'n had better pack his Underoos

If that is the best way to attack them and you are BB do you do it now or keep it in your back pocket in case you meet them in January? I think thats a big question.

I think we do it now. We can't afford to slip down the AFC standings any further, and Manning will know it is coming anyway.

If we meet them again in January, the weather will be far worse and that will work in our favor.

weather.com says:

daytime: 23F w/ Wind: WNW at 23
nighttime: 16F w/ Wind: WNW at 17

unfortunately wind is tailing away as it gets later, so gametime is something in between - call it ~ 19F and 20 mph. Hopefully enough to derail Pay-me-a-ton and his new Minnie-Me* side-kick.

* for those who need it "spelled" out ( WW upside down) - LOL.

Our pass rush has been above average even in the most critical of judgments.

it's been pretty good except those games where they decide to contain the QB instead like against pitt or car.

A nice strong wind and the cold should be PERFECT for Manning's noodle arm

not worried about the outcome of the game if the pats keep it close. if they lose a close one (by 7 points or less) it should give them some confidence heading into the playoffs that they can hang with the best the AFC has to offer. at worst i think the pats go 12-4 this year. that's good enough for a 3 seed.

How convenient, a windchill calculator

Wind Chill Chart

Plugging in your values gives us 3F. Good enough

I think it has been colder in denver this week. Dont think its going to effect him much. He throws those short throws anyway.

they have been practicing in the snow this week..lets see if it helps

You lost me here.
How does losing at home give you confidence to win on the road. You do know that every player on the Patriots expects to win this game right?

And how is a 3 seed a good thing? We have the division locked. Having to play in round 1 then go on the road for 2 games to get to the SB would be a failure of the rest of the regular season.

The weather is the wild card to me. If it is 15 degrees with 20 mph winds, the weather may be the best defender on the field. If we play the hole card in that weather, they are prepared for it in January, and it may well be in Denver and the weather will probably be better. Tough call assuming the presumption we began with is correct.

Perhaps I stand corrected. Everytime I look he's been more effective from the outside, but again, I could be cherrypicking.

Thats because he is only inside on 3rd and long, or in 2minute D. That may be 10-15% of the snaps. Of course he makes more plays from outside because he is there 8 times as much.
Sunday may be a different story, because we will play nickel base, and probably dime where we normally played nickel.
I think BB will want to see if he can stop the run vs 3 wides with 6 in the box and if he can, the pass rush should get cut loose.

They are saying single digit wind chill at kick off :rocker:

For my own sake, i'd prefer 68 and sunny, but I will gladly take one for the team and endure bitter cold. The Manning face reward will be worth it.

That's an understatement. Those who talk about comparisons of the 3 WC teams who won it all lately (PIT, NYG, BAL) are attempting to compare apples to oranges in my opinion. That has nothing to do with our team, more specifically our 2013 decimated version of the team.

Having the #2 seed increases the odds much more than many seem to be wanting to admit. We'd automatically be in the AFCCG by resting a week and winning ONE game at home. To me, that's a night and day difference.

In my opinion the #2 seed can definitely be achieved by winning out the final 5 (for those who wish to assume a 7-4 record), and may be able to be achieved by winning 4 of the last 5, although we'd need a bit of help from others. Of course if they win on Sunday vs Denver, the discussion becomes totally different and our sights could be on a different prize altogether.

at home or on the road isn't as big as an advantage as people think in the playoffs. where did peyton's home field advantage get him last year against baltimore? when the temps drop he isn't as effective on the road or at home.

I'm still stung by us beating the giants in 07' in a close game and then losing in the SB. If we lose a close game against the AFC's "best," then so be it if we can get anything out of it for down the road or save some strategy for January.

It's not just the cold it's also windy conditions and this game will be both. All the cold weather games the article references in Denver last year had zero wind and no precipitation. He's also only played in one sub 21 degree game and it's going to get that cold. The wind chill will put it in the single digits. We know Brady can play in those conditions so it's an advantage but certainly doesn't mean they'll win.

Also putting games in a bucket of 21-40 degrees is a pretty wiide range. 40 with no wind is actually awesome for football. 26 and gusting is hard for the offense. There's a reason why Warner was awesome inside in STL and AZ and sucked in NY. NY is a very windy stadium. Check out Brees for his outdoor splits his passer rating goes down about 20 points. Denver will have some cold weather but they don't get a lot of wind because of where the city sits.
