Incognito suspended indefinitely by Dolphins

The NFL is swiftly turning into a nanny state with pink ribbons. Actually, it's already here.

Oh good, this post.

There's no justification for bullying, hostile work environments or calling someone to call them "half a nigger", period.

None of this bull**** 'way it used to be' response either. Guess what - we as a society are still progressing. The way it used to be involved persecution of gays and minorities, oppression of women, slavery, genocide. "The way it used to be" is not a moral right unto itself.

Being bullied doesn't build character it just makes you hate the ******* ******* who is bullying you. Do you know what builds ******* character? Getting a job, fulfilling your responsibilities, setting and achieving goals, raising a family and abstaining from violence. These things build character.

Having some ******* talk about defecating down your mouth doesn't build character and we shouldn't treat bullies as some sort of ******* protected class that exists to toughen up kids. Bullies aren't a parental tool they're people with problems who should not be allowed free reign in a society that has progressed passed the troglodyte stage.

Yeah, can't believe they outlawed slavery and let those damn women vote too...

You don't have the first clue what you are talking about. I'd gladly wager that not only are you a civilian, but you haven't had an ounce of instruction regarding military training, techniques, etc.

You probably read some article in some magazine somewhere and now consider yourself an expert.

First of all, I do not believe hazing is actually officially endorsed by the military, hence I doubt there are any documentation on optimal hazing practices and such.

And it doesn't take an enlisted person to know that there are other ways of engendering comraderie in groups then putting the group at the mercy of a cadres of fellow soldiers, some of whom are in the military because of anti-social behaviors.

Go back to playing your video games, kid.

How does a grown 300 lb man not beat the living s hit out of the punk...is he that much of a p ussy? Some of his (RI) black teammates have sided with him also.

You're just buying one side of the story buckwheat...

Are you claiming to know the whole story, or just the side that you've heard already?

Jumping to conclusions is a great way to live life...isn't it?

RI had black teammates side with him.

There is more to the story than what you're hearing.

That is all.

Your post is the very definition of idiocy.

What good would "beating the living s hit out of the punk" do?

1) Incognito was one of the coaching staff-appointed leadership council of the Dolphins. OK, Einstein, beating him up gets him kicked off the team and out of the league forever with no redress.

2) "The punk" is at least 20 pounds heavier and is known as one of the strongest players in the NFL, bench pressing 500+ lbs. Sure, kicking his ass is easy. There tends to be a direct correlation between the amount of testosterone in the posts of heroes like you and the amount of Flintstone vitamins their mommies force them to take every morning.

Honestly, kid, you're fooling no one. Despite your lunatic claim, Jonathan Martin is no "p ussy". If he were stupid enough, he could crush you like a soda can in 4 seconds. That doesn't make him right. Someday, you may learn that.

This year is shaping up into a bad one for the NFL in some weird ways -- Hernandez, Incognito, concussion issue, injury plague, Goodell running amok, Manning hype, cold-weather Super Bowl site, Fox and Kubiak, multiple London games, scumbag Ryan brothers still employed, etc., etc.

:bricks:

And it all started with Manti Te'o and catfishing. Talk about setting the tone for the year.

I am not saying things like that don't happen. I am countering any accusations that such things are widespread, common or accepted.

You're seemingly overstating the importance of that observation.

Abusive excess was widespread and common through much of the history of US military basic training. Assuming you're right (and I believe you are) that it's been cleaned up, that doesn't automatically exonerate a different systems, with a different history, with different and much less organized structures for oversight.

First of all, I do not believe hazing is actually officially endorsed by the military, hence I doubt there are any documentation on optimal hazing practices and such.

Exception: West Point (and I presume the other military academies), where it's very organized and documented ... and where it bears little resemblance to what Incognito did.

Congrats, well said.

I'm getting the sense that Martin was being separated from his teammates. E.g., Incognito relentlessly calling him the "Big Weirdo", or paying for a trip he didn't go on. Maybe that's why the lunchroom ostracism prank was the last straw.

As to how that ties into threats -- the threats may have inhibited Martin from holding his own.

More generally, it is sometimes the case that smart, well-educated athletes suddenly sour on jock culture. My son-in-law -- who has become one of the world's better robotics engineers -- made sure to go to a college where he could play Divison 1 soccer, then soured on the experience and never played after an injury year. And it's not as if he lost interest in athletics altogether; after college, he went to the Final Four two years straight in another sport.

After listening to Gresch and Zo yesterday they were trying to frame all of this as acceptable and part of sports in general that happens to rookies, claiming that you need a thick skin. However, the more I read the more I disagree, he was not a rookie and sounds like he had poor verbal self defense skills...

There is a difference between riding a new guy as part of some rite of initiation and continuing it as he is viewed as an easy mark, this seems to be the antithesis if team building when you have groups of players ostracizing another guy because he is considered different or weird.

The Dolphins management have to take some responsibility for this as they allowed it to happen on their watch, they had to be aware either through Martin or some formal or informal lines of communication..

Just when I thought that the Dolphins were taking the next step.. they may lose two O linemen in one week..

Agree on everything you said. This wasn't a rookie hazing incident, this sounds to me like Incognito going out of his way to bully Martin, just because he knows he could have. Incognito the definition of a punk. Hopefully, he's seen his last days in the NFL.

Unless Incognito melts down, commits a crime, is caught abusing drugs or whatever, he'll get another chance. Too good a player; a lot of teams would hire him on a vet minimum prove-it deal, and he presumably needs the money.

He'll probably have his agent ask potential teams, "Precisely how many rookies do you have?"

of course he did......black veterans were also part of the toxic culture that preyed on rookies, bled them dry, fractured that team and helped them woefully underachieve

yeah, rookies carrying equipment.....taking their unit vets out to a reasonable dinner...hair cuts...fight songs....i get that, done in good fun, it isn't a huge deal.....it happens in every locker room, and when rookies participate in good faith & good fun, it can be a bonding agent.....but when rookies are made to feel forced, when they are mistreated before & after, when it goes to the level we've seen with the dolphins....it hurts teams, it hurts people

look at the red sox.....dempster said this was the first team he was on that didn't have at least one ******* in the locker room......that's a big part of how they were able to win.....every player showing up to play, and when they show up, they are committed to doing what it takes to win......this is a the true "patriot way", too.....when you are at practice/game/training - you are committed to that one goal

Miami's vets were committed to making life fun for themselves and miserable for the rookies.....and they don't win....go figure

This whole sad episode is another reason to be thankful for being a Pats fan and for the team culture instilled by BB and the Krafts.

It's okay, everyone. Claremonster has hit upon the solution to workplace harassment and threats of violence by a 300+ pound sociopath in a position of authority: Beat them up! Problem solved!

Anything less is clearly unmanly.

Even better: "He has black guys on his side, so it's undoubtedly the half-******'s fault."

Bravo!

don't agree

this isn't his first rodeo.....he hurts teams on the field and in the locker room....he's on the wrong side of 30, and he's at the beginning of a PR nightmare......

he's done for this year for sure......i'd be surprised to see anyone take a shot on him next year.....even with a veteran laden locker room.....he's that toxic
