After yesterday's game, do you think he would be a good fit in Pats' offense?

The Pats actually tendered him an offer last off-season. It depends on what he wants, but probably not. The WR group we've got now will only be getting better and aside from Amendola, comes pretty cheap.

I think there's a good chance we sign him, there's clear interest, but I think it'll come down to how they feel about Josh Boyce who I see as a similar player.

Sure. But if Dobson and Thompkins continue to progress, and Amendola and Edelman stay healthy, I don't see the Pats spending much $$ on the WR position in the offseason.

I think the team benefits more if Thompkins can develop into a consistent WR3 in year 2, as opposed to paying a WR3 4-5 million a year in Sanders. Thompkins will make 500k a year for two more seasons.

We have to pay Talib and Devin!

I would expect that interest in Sanders would depend on how the team feels about Josh Boyce. If they feel Boyce can make the leap in his second season and contribute as a 3rd or 4th receiver then I would not expect us to make another run at Sanders, if they lack that confidence I could envision them pursuing him again this offseason.

I don't think Thompkins is as promising a prospect as Josh Boyce, I think he was receiving opportunity early because of his work ethic and maturity, he is not that talented by NFL wide receiver standards.

I'll be honest, I believe that Sanders won't be on the Pats radar. Look at what they have. Amendola, Edelman, Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce. They also have TJ Moe on IR and Mark Harrison on NFI.

Harrison is a big guy and probably could be used in the H-Back role, giving the Pats another receiver who can also block. But, he's got a long way to go to prove he belongs here.

Moe is intriguing because he put up Wes Welker type numbers in the 3cone (6.53) and Short Shuttle (3.96). The difference is that Moe is just under 6'0 where Welker was 5'8 on the Rack stretching him out. The big question about Moe is whether or not he'll have that same agility when he comes back from the Achilles tear. If he comes back 100%, then he could push Edelman, Boyce or even Washington for a spot since Moe was a very good kickreturner in college.

I just don't see the Pats shelling out big money for a WR with the depth they have currently.

Oh. and I didn't forget about Collie. I just don't expect him to be back. Especially if his knee injury is serious.

with this team...who knows

I was a big fan of his during the offseason and even to start the season, but given the fantastic showing from Talib this season, the problems at C and RG, and the emergence of Dobson as the #1 outside receiver, I'd much rather see the Pats spend their cap room on Talib and interior OL help as opposed to another receiver. At this point, I wouldn't see anything wrong with entering next preseason with Dobson, Amendola, Edelman, Thompkins, Boyce, Moe, and Harrison at WR. The only one of those not under contract is Edelman, but he'll come a lot cheaper than Sanders.

Also, it's worth mentioning that I've seen some comments from Steelers fans about how Sanders should be demoted from the #2 receiver to the #4 behind Cotchery and Wheaton. I didn't think he played poorly, but they're very upset.

Wide Receiver will be an interesting position to watch going into the offseason. The only locks to return are Amendola (Big contract), Boyce (redshirt 4th rounder), Dobson (promising 2nd rounder) and Matthew Slater (ace special teamer).

I view Collie as a veteran "insurance" policy for Amendola and Edelman. I don't expect to see him back.

Edelman is a good player and an elite punt returner. I'd love to have him back if his role on the offense is as a #4 WR and punt returner, but I won't be throwing fits if he finds more money elsewhere.

Thompkins is guaranteed nothing as an UDFA. He shined early, though inconsistent, and has now seemingly been benched for Dobson going forward.

The additions (if any) made at WR will have to be made after the team decides how it wants to construct its offense. Does it want to be more of a 2-TE offense like in years past? Do they want to focus on a 3-WR offense?

It'll also be interesting to see if there's any residual interest in Michael Johnson. However, considering Chandler Jones' breakout, Nink's re-signed contract and the fact that Johnson will be expensive, I doubt it will happen.

Hope Patriots can pick up Jon Asamoah and/or Alex Mack

I'd like to see them get Jericho Cotchery. He always seems to be around the ball.

He wasn't benched for Dobson. They play 2 different positions and they have been on the field at the same time. Thompkins plays the other outside position opposite Dobson. But the Pats haven't been using that with the return of Gronkowski and Amendola and the addition of Collie.

If Collie's injury is anything serious, we'll see Thompkins return.

And while you are correct that the Pats lose nothing in potentially cutting Thompkins, it's much more likely that he'll be on the team next September than Sanders.

I agree Johnsons seems unlikely. If they’re going to spend money on the free agent market for a defensive lineman I feel like it would best to spend it on an interior lineman. Chandler is a stud, Ninkovich is a solid playmaker and they have some developmental pieces in Buchanan (who I have high aspirations for) and Jake Bequette is still chatting up the cheerleaders on the sidelines.

Re: Sanders

WR eceiving corps for 2014:

All but locked in:

Dobson
Amendola

Most likely back if he can stay healthy and doesn't ask for too much money:

Edelman

Most likely back unless he craps the bed from now moving forward:

Thompkins
Boyce

While a guy like Gordon would have been a tremendous "get" (WR1) in terms of on-the-field ability, it looks as if it would be tough to find a place for another WR3 like Sanders, even if it's only because of his likely price tag.

What is Sanders' likely price tag though? He's a 5-11 guy who runs a 4.41. That isn't someone that's likely to demand big money. I'm not sure he'd get paid more than what Amendola is getting.

Re: Sanders

No thanks. We have other places to spend the money now.

Back then the murderer was still on the team. We now need another TE. We need at least one interior OL, maybe two. We need another DT, maybe two depending on Wilfork. We need a CB (or need to spend big money on Talib).

They're all bigger needs than a good but not great WR. We took our shot, didn't get him and filled the position through the draft.
