Hope the guy has something left in the tank….

Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh!

Bring back Mark Anderson too, we re getting the band back together!

If we get pre-injury Carter then this is a great move. Best thing is that it shouldn't take him long to get reacclimated with plays, signals, etc

Good signing, if for nothing else than leadership. Carter was an immensely popular player in 2011, and he should add another presence to the locker room with Wilfork and Mayo down.

As for on the field, I don't think we'll see too much of him. He's 34 years old, coming off of a quad tear, didn't play particularly well in Oakland last year, and was released in August. I seem him more as a depth signing at DE. He's bigger than Buchanan and should be better against the run, so as Jones and Ninkovich ware down over the course of the game, Carter could come on for them and keep legs fresh.

I like this move a lot. If used correctly, I bet he can still get after it. He was a beast with us, and the guy keeps himself in practically superhuman condition.

Low risk, possibly very high reward.

Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh!

Looking at this purely from a gameplan specific vacuum, Andre Neblett was essentially waived correspondingly with this move, meaning his services were no longer required because Miami's run game is not as prominent as the Jets, at least in a gameplan sense.

The signing tells me, if Carter suits up, that the Patriots intend to get after Tannehill this week with their pass rush. The run D won't be as prevalent and thus neither will the amount of run-stuffing bodies be needed either, because the Dolphins are probably going to try to throw their way to a win on offense.

Beyond that, I don't have any expectations for this signing. Carter could easily stay on for the remainder of the season or just as easily be cut next week, if the gameplan calls for it. The last seen of him with Oakland looked pretty much like he was done.

A COUPLE OF OPTIONS

1) Upgrade to Buchanan as a DE on passing downs.

2) A DE addition so that Ninkovich can fulfill his role as our backup LB (replacing Mayo), as he did last year.

BOTTOM LINE

We needed the help. Carter replaced Neblitt (sp?) on the roster. If Armstead is ready, he COULD replace Forston.

I wonder if this means the team moves ninkovich to lb on passing downs..help fill the void of mayo

That was my immediate thought. I think Ninkovich might be moving back to linebacker, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's on a near-full-time basis. It's either:

1) Ninkovich is moving back to LB for a significant percentage of his snaps
2) They're discouraged with Buchanan to the point that they don't even want him in a three-man rotation at this point
3) Chandler Jones is going to be taking a lot more snaps at DT.

My guess would be that it's a combination of all three, with 1 being most prominent.

Losing andre carter prior to the 11' super bowl was probably the worst thing that happened to the team other than gronk's ankle injury.

Chandler Jones need help on the other side...our CB's are good we need better rushing from the Strong Side. He was a Beast the last time around before his injury.

I remember don't remind me.

Let me spell this move out for you.....

D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-I-O-N

At least they are trying to do something rather than trot out what we had out there last week. I would be mad if they did nothing. Better to bring in a guy who knows the system and might be able to give you something quickly.

Love this move. Carter was my favorite player on the team 2 years ago, he should have been resigned weeks ago. Hopefully he has some gas left in the tank.

They badly needed pass rush help for Jones because Ninkovich clearly wasn't getting it done.

After the Extension Nicko's pass rushing moves to the QB is almost nonexistent. Geno Smith at times had alot of time back there once Chandler was Blocked! If we can Bring Heat from both sides that puts alot of pressure on any Offense.

Seriously, trying to improve a team by signing a quality veteran who knows the system isn't desperation.

Desperation would be if they signed me.

Well, since 2007 he's alternated double digit sack seasons with single digit ones. Guess what he's on pace for this year??

2007: 10.5
2008: 4.0
2009: 11.0
2010: 2.5
2011: 10.0
2012: 2.5
2013: ??????

Of course, I'm joking. Hope he has something left but color me skeptical at this point.

Speaking of which, how are your pass blocking skills?

Very nice signing. He is great in the locker room and should still have some gas in the tank. Welcome back Andre!
