I really liked Gerhart too. I'm surprised you think Quinn is overrated. I haven't watched him but the impression I get is that he's being talked of a being one of the best rushers in the league right now. I don't think that would be a miss at all.

There is no doubt that Evans is a talented WR.

And while I don't see him running a blistering time at the combine, which may cause him to drop a bit, I seriously doubt he is on the board late enough in the first round for us to have a shot to trade up and get him.

We just have too many other needs (DT (times 2), OT, TE, CB, S) to spend multiple picks to go get him.

With that being said, whoever does get him is getting a whale of a raw talent.

I heard he's pretty poor vs. the run, so I can't imagine BB enjoying that in a DE. He is a hell of a pass rusher though.

Mike Evans is a freakish beast, no doubt. But, all this 'faster Vincent Jackson' and surefire top-10 pick talk doesn't really make much sense at this point.

He's definitely not a 'faster Vincent Jackson', he's more or less like a TE with WR hips, cutting and leaping ability. VJax is a much smoother athlete who has more speed and explosiveness of the LOS than Evans. He ran a 4.46-40 at 6'5 240 lbs. While Evans is a 4.55 at best at 6'5 225 lbs and is a long strider.

Evans could definitely be a first rounder. How high he'll go will be based on his measurables, specifically how fast he runs at the combine/pro-day. I can't see any team taking him in the top-10 if he runs a 4.61, which is his current projected 40 time.

I like the power and tenacity he plays with though.

Is it just me, or does it look like he hauls in an open field? Yesterday's long TD and the 90 yard TD vs. Bama come to mind. He might be one of those gamespeed players.

I think part of it is Manziel.

Whenever you have a QB that can run or roll out, it tends to suck up the DB's and if you have a QB as athletic as Manziel, then the DB's are already peaking into the backfield and squatting on any hint that Manziel will run.

Another part of it is the college DB's are not very physical with receivers at the LOS. As our rookies are learning, NFL DB's are much harder on WR's at the LOS than in college.

My concern with Evans is not so much his speed but the fact that he's just not involved in a complex offense. Basically he just runs down the sideline and jumps for the ball when Manziel lofts it up to him. I'm being a little facetious here but has he ever made a 45 or 90 degree cut? Has there been any sightings of him inside the numbers?

He is fantastic at what he does but if I'm taking him top 10, I'd want him doing more.

Gerhart isn't much of a RB, has he played much FB in MN?

It was my first year scouting and following the draft so I didn't have a clue. I just have a thing for good north-south runners. Looking at PFF, he's getting about 10-25 snaps per game mainly on passing downs.

This guy scares the hell out of me.

Robotic-looking running around. Relies on entirely on his size to get separation. You can bully college players like that, but in the NFL someone will be in your hip pocket.

People keep comparing him to Vincent Jackson because he's big, but Jackson athletic skillset was something else (he was a punt returner in college!). A better comparison for his style of play would be former USC wideout Mike Williams.

I like Ethan so I'm not casting aspersions on his reliability. He was the one that got me excited about the Pats and Wheaton last year because he said pretty much the same thing.

I do. Receivers can be found further down in the draft. If you coach them right, have continuity, they can succeed as much as anyone.

But I tend to agree with you about a WR. I'm not closed to it. Evans would be a great addition as would Brandin Cooks and I wouldn't say no to the explosion of Sammy Watkins if he fell or the two LSU boys. But beyond that, I'm less thrilled.

I also like Robinson from PSU and a few others, but I don't see it's a huge need at all

There's some talent to be had at receiver next May. Lee is the one I have the biggest hard-on for, he'd be a nightmare in our offense, got to love Evans though. Watkins reminds me a lot of Greg Jennings too.

How do you coach raw talent? There are plenty of bodies late in the draft that will never be fit to hold Megatron's jock no matter how much coaching they get. There might be guys you can get by with but I don't know why anyone would think they'll have the impact of a guy like Moss, Fitzgerald, etc.

As far as the game being won in the trenches, I think of it as the foundation to a building, it's necessary but not sufficient. If your receivers aren't getting open it doesn't matter how good your line is.
