I know it's ages away but what are peoples predictions?

I think there is only 4 teams that stand a good chance of winning it.... Spain, Germany, Argentina and Brazil - in that order.

I think Spain have the best all around team, being reigning World and European Champions, they have unbelievable talent going forward/in midfield (Busquets, Alonso, Silva, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Navas, Pedro, Mata, Torres, Villa, Llorente, Soldado etc) and a very good defence. Spain's second XI could still beat most teams. They look best on paper but I'm not so sure, the top Spanish teams fell away last year and the Germans hammered them in CL semi's - maybe the tide is about to turn? Not to mention the fact they lost in the Confederations Cup.

Second for me is Germany, they have the second most talented team but are a bit more balanced than Spain (they seem to able to adapt to different styles). They are better physically, better defensively and their midfield/attack isn't far off the Spanish in terms of talent either (Neuer, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Gotze, Gomez, Muller, Kroos, Podolski). They are rising to the top of club football aswell. I really hope they win it for a change.

Next is Argentina, the tournament being held in South America helps them (and Brazil) immensely, no European team has ever won a South American WC. That will become less of a factor as time goes on as players are much more used to the travelling etc than they were 20 years ago, but it's still not an easy task. Argentina have a lot of good attacking options, (Messi, Higuiain, Lavezzi, Tevez, Aguero) are decent in midfield but awful in defence and that will cost them later on. They have a big shot if Messi turns up like he does for Barca

Final contender for me is Brazil, they have a few top players like Neymar, but aren't near the levels of a few years ago, obviously the home crowd will help them massively.

You can never rule out Italy/Holland and maybe even Uruguay.

America obviously have no chance, but getting out of the group would be a good achievement for them. I'll be hoping they do well, also rooting for Germany since I was there during the Euro's, but most of all I'll be supporting whoever is playing against England (since Scotland have sucked for years and haven't reached a major tournament since 1998 and Ireland who I also like didn't get in). Should be great, roll on the draw on December 6th.

Pretty much agreed with everything you typed until the last sentence in brackets!

Feck Ireland and all who sail in her! :)

Since Scotland have been murder for pretty much my whole life I've always favoured Germany in the tournaments. Firstly because I love the way they have always played the game and secondly because England hate them! Couple of players you missed that I think might have big big tournaments for the favourites are Koke of Atletico Madrid for Spain and Julian Draxler of Schalke for Germany. Koke is an assist machine and Draxler reminds me of Gotze but with even more potential!

As a jock I have to agree its A.B.E!

Dear America, hahahahahahhaha.

Greeting from Germany :singing:

As a proud Portuguese/American I am absolutely devastated by this group....

Here's hoping Portugal and the US make it thru... but my gut tells me is gonna be Germany and the US...

I've been watching Portuguese soccer my whole life, outside of Ronaldo, this is the worst team I've ever seen them field.

Ghana will handle the US. They seem to be the only club in the world that has zero problem with the US, and they're the only side that is truly in the USA's head.

US will likely lose to Germany (duh), but Portugal is beatable.

US 1-2-0

Germany and Ghana move on.

****ty draw, but we expected that. USA needs to get the **** out of CONCACAF and play some real football with the South American teams.

EDIT - Because of my love of The Bundesliga, Germany is my sentimental favorite, so seeing this kinda sucks for me too.

I think they still have some good players.

Pepe although being a complete headcase is a good centre back. Jaoa Moutinho is a decent sitting midfielder and I quite like the Valencia right back who's name escapes me (pereyra maybe?) but in general Portugal are very poor compared to previous years. Guys like postiga and nani really need to step up and play to their maximum for Portugal to have a chance.

Pepe is class, and him along with Bruno Alves make our center back pairings strong. I also love Fabio Coentrao, Moutinho is good, but I grew up watching the likes of Rui Costa, Paulo Sousa and Deco run our MF, he unfortunately is none of those.

Nani at this point is all hype, and Postiga and Hugo Almeida are garbage. Our GK Rui Patricio is way to inconsistent for my liking.

Like I said I see the Germans and the US going thru, but if Ronaldo catches fire, he can easily lead Portugal to the Quarter finals.

I very partial to the Spaniards. They just play awesome, total football. With that said...

RIP Eusebio.
Truly, one of the greatest ever!

I am Brazilian and I wish Brazil gets eliminated in the initial games, not going to the tournament, very unlikely though.

I have zero interest in this world cup, the opening game will be 10 miles from here, in the new stadium of my soccer team, I didn't even look for tickets, fug that. The only benefit I will get is day off in Brazil's game days.

How many days until football season?

What decision was worse, the penalty for Brazil or the PI that never was against Carolina? Who knows.

Tomorrow the big day for me. Portugal-Germany gonna be intense. Germany have beaten us the last couple of times, here's hoping that changes tomorrow.

And of course the US plays Ghana later on. I'm rooting desperately for both Portugal and the US to move on

I was not excited at all to this world cup and I'll keep rooting against my national team but in general the games are being very cool to watch so far, high level of soccer.

No draw so far, one of the things I hate most in soccer is a draw.
